I hate being asked what I my ethnicity is because it's just so awkward

Recommended Posts

My father is full blooded Garifuna from Honduras and he just moved to the US when he was 8. And my mom is white (polish) I hate when people ask like what my ethnicity is because it feels so awkward saying 'Oh I'm Garifuna and white' and people just look at me like I'm crazy. I'm not super involved in my garifuna culture anyway so I can't even rep that. Also because there like barely any Garifuna Hondurans, like every Honduran has Spanish blood and are super light skin. I barely know any black Hondurans other than my family :(((( Does anyone else relate???? Being from a super obscure ethnic group that because-you're-first-gen-Americans-your-parents-want-you-to-be-as-American-as-possible-so-they-don't-expose-you-to-the-culture

people ask me if I'm ASIAN OR CHINESE

but yeah I can relate as well. I tell them I'm half Chinese, and then they're like, "That means you're part Asian as well right?"

but then I'm actually half Hmong, and then they're like, "WHAT THE FUCK IS A MONG" and then I have to explain to them what a Hmong is.
