YNRA 1,082
when a college says "roomate" (like they have a program to find your roomate) does that mean housemate, because i don't want a roomate. i want my own room and i keep getting roomate requests? sakurahanabira 6,634
if you're dorming, it always means roommate. If you choose to live off campus in an apartment, roommate means someone you room with and housemate means someone you share an apartment with. If you don't want a roommate you can request a single room if they're available. My sister lived in a suite-styled dorm when she was in her first year of university and she had both a roommate and suitemates (people she shared a suite with, but did not room with). CantabileCross 638
oh okay, makes sense. so you dont get to choose your "suite/flat mates?" refers to roommate if you're placed in a dorm, suite/flatmate if you're placed in an apartment
sakurahanabira 6,634
refers to roommate if you're placed in a dorm, suite/flatmate if you're placed in an apartment Suitemate can be used if the dorm is suite-styled. My sister lived in a suite-style dorm (not apartment) so she had both a roommate and suitemates.
Rose. 4,207
I stayed in a suite-style dorm and shared my room with another person my first semester. If you can find an apartment close to your school and they let you stay in your first year (if they require you to dorm), go do it. It made life easier for me despite paying for the room.
