Do you think that Pledis is Rising? What do you think the future holds?

Seems like Pledis is doing really well these days. Pristin is off to a good start as a debut group. Their debut album sales are great and they have potential to be a top album selling female group (compare the debut album sales of groups like Red Velvet and Twice).

Seventeen is doing remarkably well despite some tiny scandals and it seems like Pledis is going all out for this next comeback. The budget is real on some of those teasers.

Nuest going on Produce101 is reviving interest in the group - but not only interest, but sales as well. The only thing is we have no idea what the plan is if some make it into the Top 11 but not all. But overall things are looking up for the group for the first time in 5 years.

What do you think will happen to Pledis in the next couple of years? Will they rise and become a major player, or will they go the way of Cube where they rise and show promise but then crash? Recall that After School/Orange Caramel was pretty much trashed despite achieving mainstream success.

Pledis never was shot ain't never gon be shit. Nu'est should do like Highlight since Pledis is Cube's cousin, and bullshit runs in their family.

As someone who loves all of Pledis' current acts I really hope they make it, but for that to happen the company's management and promotional team need to get their shit together asap. The kids are all talented, the costumes and MVs are super pretty, and the music is great so long term success really relies on the pr and management.

Also, Han Donggeun is also a part of Pledis and he has been doing really well too.

As long as they don't mess it up then yes they might become a really big company. Their management seems to have improved and they've done well at multitasking for now (handling Han Don Geun, Pristin and Seventeen and sending Nu'est to produce 101).

But I'm still can't trust them tbh, I've been burned by their shitty management too much ohdearplz.png

And After School is still in limbo ohdearplz.png

At this point, Afterschool can only make a comeback if Pledis's other acts do well.  The members that were originally going into Afterschool to lift the numbers, instead, all went into Pristin - which was probably the best decision. they can start from scratch and also have Nayoung lead it as the eldest.

So a recruit drive is needed after pledis gets cash to train a new set of girls.

But even though it's in limbo, Afterschool isn't going away.  the name still has it's rep.  Just like how they keep introducing Uee as Afterschool's Uee, or Nana as Afterschool's Nana.

Depending on how soon they get to training or recruiting (or if they still have some trainees in the wings somewhere) it'll be a while until Afterschool has a comeback - by that time it'll probably be led by Kaeun + a new batch of girls.

I feel Pledis is done with the rotational concept and that it's just up to the members to want to do a comeback or not. Uee and Nana don't seem interested at all and there might be some tension between members too.

I don't think it's Pledis not wanting anymore, the same way we haven't got a OC comeback.

Well Uee and Nana are pretty much diving straight into the acting biz.  Uee's more or less a vet at this point, and Nana is getting her feet wet with, so far, positive reviews, so that will probably be their primary focus from now on.  Whether or not they stay with the company when their contracts are up ~ who knows, but there is no incentive for them to jump ship to a more actor focused agency at this point because they both have enough of a profile that the work and CF's come to them, and Pledis seems to be managing them both just fine.

There's no OC comeback I think because they've almost outgrown it.  It started as a hypercute almost cringy bubblegum pop with the song magic girl - which turned into a surprise hit with many boygroups covering the dance in full magic-girl attire - contributing to its spread.

The concepts changed neatly over time and now they are sitting at the mature/weird/funny song stage - basically the songs that Afterschool couldn't do (with it's tough image).

And after Gangnam avenue each member focused on their individual activities.

Raina and Lizzy released a solo and Nana started doing a whole bunch of random movie/variety stuff

Not sure how the response was for Gangnam avenue, but it's still a nice song

I am hopeful but prepared for disappointment.

Pledis groups have a tendency to start out good and then fizzle out due to lack of promotion (or getting shipped off to Japan for too long).

Pledis and Cube are the two companies where I like almost all of the artists but the companies themselves suck. I'm hoping that both companies get their shit together soon.

Pledis' recruit drive is for very young trainees in recent years. They use to accept trainees up to 25 years of age (probably for the rotational system of After School), but last I check the maximum age was 20 years old. Majority of Pledis trainees start at a very young age and amass long-term training before they debut, with only few exceptions (Yuha, who trained for a little over a year, and Aron who trained only for 8 months).

All the After School potential trainees have since left Pledis before Pledis Girlz went for Produce 101. It is very likely that Pledis has abandoned the idea of adding new members.

On the hindsight, OC might continue if Pledis manage to earn enough without keep sending NANA on movies and dramas and overseas television programs. That's the hope that Raina and Lizzy seemed to be holding onto; it also seemed like Lizzy has re-contracted with Pledis for this. Because of their concept, they need to have something that's not overly cringy cute anymore (like Aing) but their last few releases haven't been too bad. My Copycat was quirky enough for OC's image without being over the top. They can last long if Pledis was willing to reinvest in them (I can see them doing tracks/concepts like Perfume, while not that EDM heavy and more quirky, age shouldn't be too much of a factor as long as they grab the right songs).

Still wishing for After School comeback though, even if it's as five with OC + Kaeun + Eyoung. The sad thing is because of their performance heavy styles, it's not easy to come back in the same styles unless they rebrand a bit. There's no one strong dancer like Kahi and Jungha (or even UEE) anymore in the lineup, which was probably why Pledis sort of put them on the backhold.

I just wished they did Kaeun/Eyoung more justice. Kaeun could have easily led Pristin if Pledis wasn't so eager to add a new member with Kahi's departure, she didn't even have that much training but she still kept up with After School to the best of her abilities.

------

Anyway, Pledis have shown some promise, but I still wouldn't bet on it. Even with NU'EST on produce 101, they haven't show much support to them so far (they left an official statement that the boys wanted to go on the show, yet the boys were depressed and said that they hear they're a failure group, so the circumstances in which they were given this project by the company was questionable); when NU'EST was getting hate and personality rumors recently, they weren't stepping up to clear anything either.

Just last year when Aron injured himself post-Japan concert and had to sit out of a performance, Pledis gave no feedback either. It makes me wonder if they are really lacking resources that they can't spare some on NU'EST, or the management really just want them to die out the way they let After School be.

How Pledis handles NU'EST post pd101 is how I will be convinced that pledis has changed their ways...or not. While CUBE (mentioning it cause people have mentioned it here) has its downfall, most of it is caused by the changes in management as the founder had stepped out for a long while even before the official statement was released. Kfans knew that their initial CEO had been down with serious illness to be able to handle company stuff, so the recent downfall since 2016 was more likely cause of the mishandling of a new crew.

Pledis however, has had their same founder CEO for aeons, with an addition of a new VP that...LOVEs had always felt never quite bothered with NU'EST in the first place.

I hope Pledis keeps up its good management. For now they've done great.

Pristin has enough exposure to launch them. The song is annoyingly catchy and the album sells like crazy for a debut album.

Seventeen is coming back like a storm. The teasers are amazing so I hope the song and choreography are too (I trust woozi and hoshi tho^^). I hope the album sells like crazy and finally seventeen will get a hit song (mansae is a hit song but not enough).

Nu'est is being seen in a new light. I bet most people only knows ren before pd101 (me included) but now we can see more sides of the members and all their hardwork! I thought it would end up awful but I think they did really well in the show. I just kinda hope they won't debut in pd101 but instead comeback as Nu'est!

Orange Caramel and After School. Their names are still heard so I hope they comeback soon. From all the pledis artist, I actually don't know much about OC and AS bcs I've only been into kpop for a little over a year, but I've heard their songs and I wish they'll comeback so I can see them all fresh and new^^

And don't forget Pledis' successful soloist Han Dong Geun! He's recently been on a variety show (I forgot the name but it's something like a secret variety academy?) and his songs are what koreans like so his digital is very very good.

I hope Pledis will go better and better! I hope they won't debut another group for like 4-5 years so they won't get overwhelmed^^
