I'm in my 40s(not really), and back in the day people knew you stanned by buying CDs and posters and other merch and going to concerts.

I follow a lot of people on social media, but the ones I really like, I financially support.

there are kids who aren't able to purchase albums and merchandise but they can still be a stan by actively following the group and showing genuine love for them. plus, some live in countries with no kpop bands coming but they can still be a stan. so as long as you actively support them and show genuine love for the group, you can title yourself as a stan~

There's a few groups that I like more than just as a casual fan, but not on the same level as I stan SJ and NCT (buy albums/merch, go to concerts) so idk where I stand with them. Semi-stan, is that a thing?

Anyway I voted for watch everything for free online bc that's the most I could do years ago back when I was a poor student with no money.

- Keep up to date. Know that a member is casted in something or released something. Watch a lot music show performances.

- Support them

->

1. Spend $.

2. Try their best in increasing official mv youtube views or vote really hard for them. A fan may not be spending any money, but this will still contribute to a music show win.

3. Run a big account that promotes them online. This helps to increase exposure and may lead to attracting fans that will do 1 or 2.

I think that stanning someone is helping them by buying their albums, merch etc or maybe even trying to increase youtube views or voting for music shows. While it's good to support them with $, fans who are students shouldn't feel obliged to spend money for their idol. Sure, it's good but I don't think they should be looked down on by older fans for not being able to support them even if they have the money (simply because they're parents don't allow them to)

I myself am a student and I do have albums, but I don't buy every single album that my bias groups release, because I don't work for my money, the money I have is what my parents have given as allowance.

I have seen people blaming student fans for not supporting their idols even though they "have a phone and wifi" so yea...

Anyway, I believe that as a stan, you should be updated on news about them, doesn't have to be too recent, but at least know what they've been doing recently. Concerts aren't necessarily the most important to become a stan either because idols obviously can't visit every country in the world and not everyone has the time or money to go. Honestly the most important thing to being a stan to me is loving them, not obsessively, but loving them as an idol whom you look up to

I think you're stanning someone when:

- you know all members of the group by names and faces

- you like a large part of their music

- you are WILLING to spend money on them (some people don't have access/finances/abilities to buy merch and stuff)

- you want to know even more about the group

- you want to go to a concert (again, WANT, because some groups don't tour some parts of the world (believe me, I'm a Shawol-elf-Insprit from Denmark, no one ever comes here))

- you follow the different members' activities

- you are subscribed to their official YouTube channel (if you have an account on youtube)

you actually buy songs, albums and/or merchandise.

my only issue with this is that some fans cannot afford it yet they still show unconditional loce to their bias group. by still loving the group, streaming their music on yt/spotify/melon, promoting them on sites/music shows, does that mean they arent being a stan?

Upvoted for the Woohyun pic rlytearpls.png

It means you want to love and support an artist however you can. Some fans are able to buy albums and merchandise and attend concerts/fanmeetings etc. Others may not be so free financially but will support in other ways like user above me mentioned.
