Last night MTV made history by being the first awards show to get rid of Best Actor, Best Actress categories and just have one category "Best Actor in a movie" and "Best Actor in a TV Show"

They did this because of pressure/suggestions from Millennials/SJW's

co-executive producer Vanessa Whitewolf told MTV news that younger viewers love good performances.

"They don't care if it's coming from a male or a female. Gender doesn't really have anything to do with it," Whitewolf said.

Do you like this and want to see more award shows do this?

I think it's kinda pointless. I just know that once 1 gender starts to win consecutive years (5 males in a row), then the same people who pushed for this will start complaining that Actresses are not getting recognized and it's sexist.

male and female roles are acted differently tho? i'd prefer if they stick to the original categories and give out grand prizes or smth like "daesangs" in awards shows..

all of this "gender neutral" award bullshit yet they give it to emma watson for her role as a disney princess...

Okay your end point is so correct.

Like, your award means nothing if you're giving it to someone who can't act. It's a popularity award, own that.

Imo the awards helped each gender get better recognition, especially the women's awards. Now it's like the gender bias can potentially rear it's head again-if one gender wins more awards than the others are going to be upset by it. Imo it's causing more problems than helping.

I think is a bad move as it's one award less and which means one actor/actress less getting an award. I really don't know who pushed this but fuck, the whole idea of having different categories is to reward different people in different aspects not to discriminate or segregate people.

Some people place too much importance on Award Shows. They're all part of the business. At the Oscars, they want to give out as many awards to as many different films as possible to drive people back into theaters (at least that's what they hope). That's why you never see a film win 10+ awards anymore. This Gender Neutral Award only works for a show with no real impact on the industry. It will never happen at the bigger shows.

rolling my eyes at your use of sjw but I definitely think that it was a weird move to merge actors and actresses into a single category. there should be as many chances as possible for women to be getting awards they work hard for and you know that'll never happen if they have to compete against men lol
