Competition a common thing not only in Kpop but almost in everything , but not everything common is necessarily right , I don't think we should live on with such mentality, it's music and if you feel like you don't relate to your idols or their music doesn't speak to you anymore just unstan and enjoy your life, listen to music you like , follow celebrities that interest you and make yourself happy, you don't owe anyone anything these idols are out there to entertain you and they get paid for it and you surely don't need other people's approval of your faves . In the end , it's a matter of preference , and it depends a lot on what type of person you are, there are multiple factors that influence your personal taste so you shouldn't be affected by what other people think of your musical choices , we all have different approaches of what is "cool" , if you're into ballads it's because you're someone who cherish inner peace and overflowing emotions, if you're into the upbeat you're more likely a person who's sensitive to physical stimulation etc....If look at it this way it'd explain many things and you'd be able to block away any negativity. Some people were raised in an environment where the ethical code is different from the one you grew up with in your country , some people give priority to good behavior and well mannered artists , some others just care about their work and what they have to offer no matter how shitty their personality is , as long as they relate to their music and art, they perceive themselves as mere consumers and they don't feel the need to relate to their artist in a personal level....
People are different and K-pop offers different types of products for customers to choose from . of course there are some materials who are obviously less interesting than others but you can't always compare artists to each other based on their level of attractiveness , some groups are more local because they relate to a certain type of audience that happened to be the majority in Korea or Japan and Asia in general , some others seem to attract more international audience , and some artists just relate to a minority of people and it's not a bad thing, some people just have a special taste, isn't it interesting to be different lol ? There's no fixed criteria to determine who's successful and who's not, but I think the most important for an artist is to be able to entertain his audience no matter how big it is , when you have people who acknowledge your art and bother to follow you and purchase your work you're a successful artist.
