if you don't know a problem, do you skip it?

hi!

i was just doing some math homework and i stumbled across maybe three problems that i had absolutely no idea what to do for. i put 'come back to later' and emailed my teacher about them, (i'm in high school, lol.) but i just feel so pathetic about myself when i skip past something.

so what do you do? do you skip past and just keep going? or do you just keep focusing on it? i thought the answer was obvious but a lot of my friends do the opposite of what i do.

everyone's different but the reason why i always sucked at mathematics was becasue i skipped the ones i didn't know

when i actually tried to solve each one and understand them i noticed a huge improvement - it kinda helps you understand the problems for the next day since mathematics tends to build upon itself (unfortunately twitch.gif)

From someone who really struggled with math, i passed the question then came back to it. My teacher in HS would give us credit if we are able to at least try the question out than leaving it.

I'd at least search online on how to do it and show some work

Skip it, then do a few problems and come back to it. If you still don't know, move forward and go back after some more. Keep going until you can get it.

It makes no sense, IMO, to waste time trying to figure out one problem when I could be working on others instead and making progress~

true! plus. sometimes if you keep doing problems something is revealed on how to do it [emoji102] it's very similar on tests as well lol! but i really like your answer !!

skip it.

btw for math, Wolfram Alpha is a huge lifesaver. I used it all the time when I took Calculus and got stuck on some of the homework problems.

omg yes, i discovered that right after i made this post . its saving me

Never did homework in highschool so I don't know and with math and calculus I was pretty good so never happened to me. However if you're just solving math problems is very common for the book to have the answers and the whole procedure on how to do the problem. So try to find the book your teacher is using and searching online for the answers and procedures.

I'm not saying to just copy the answer like a lazy fucker but if you really don't have a clue of how to do it's better to have this type of material in order to improve and study. Check how it's done and just keep solving problems; like the ones you solve in class try to re do it by yourself and at the end check the answer to see if you did it ok. After that, if you're still stuck with something then ask your teacher for help.

So overall yeah, skipping the ones you don't know is better if you want to finish your homework as soon as possible.

sadly my teacher doesn't use a book; and we usually rely on example problems and obscure worksheets. my teacher is great at helping and is extremely lenient with grading. i'm very lucky: mostly i think its just my self confidence making me mad when i skip a problem rather than anxiousness over the homework being completed.

i try to remember the formula first (i'm better at remembering the formulas but then i get puzzled trying to apply it) for it but if i can't figure that out, i skip and come back later
