Persona 5's acid jazz soundtrack deserves to be up there as one of the best Japanese albums this year

This is probably one of my most played albums this year. Only posting the vocal tracks, but the instrumental ones are just as good. This OST is some of Shoji Meguro's best work.

Don't open this one unless you don't care about spoilers or have finished the game.

Related to Persona 5 and Japanese artists, Taku from m-flo mentioned he's remixed a song for P5. Hopefully that means another rhythm game is coming!

I still prefer Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden songs though.

Eh. I like some of P4's songs, but the soundtrack is pretty overrated. I'd put Persona 3's over 4.

Well, I guess everyone has different taste. ^^

Haven't spun the entire album yet, since I'd been holding off until I was able to play it.  Now that I've finished though, I can't wait to give it a proper listen.  Since I enjoyed the vast majority of the music in P5.

The styles used in the soundtrack really work for the mood/themes they're going for. It's different that P3/P4, but it works for this. Hearing Life Will Change play at certain moments was ahmagahplz.png

Blooming Villain is another great battle track.

Yeah, finally got there at the end of last week.  And quite a bit actually, yes!  I don't feel it was perfect (as much as I liked "Last Surprise", I think they could have stood to have at least one other 'normal' battle theme; plus a couple moments likely could have been paced slightly better), but I think the few nitpicks I have will likely be cleared up when they do "P5:  Scarlet" or whatever they intend to call the remix in a few years.  On the whole though, I loved the game and feel that it handled its themes better than either of the two games that preceded it.  Enjoyed the majority of the social links and felt like the dungeons were a much needed step up from what I was used to.  I'd say it's easily my favorite game thus far this year.

Plus that ending, whoo boy that True ending.  I really felt like that was something you had to earn, given just how they portrayed things.

I'm on the second palace and I think this is my fav persona game already in terms of gameplay. Hard mode is actually hard too since conserving SP is a bitch and I had to get through the first palace to the treasure room in 1 day to make sure I can get max slinks. Luckily it seems social links aren't too hard. Tae Takemi is really good early for when you confuse memento bosses for tons of yen. Ive also heard that the story is not only better but also a lot longer than any previous persona game. Two months in game for me is 10 hours of gameplay which is crazy.

Too bad the English translation, according to some guys I know who played the Japanese version, is really subpar and isn't as good as the original text. Also yea the OST is great.

The story is a really fascinating look at Japanese society. A lot of the targets were based on real people/events, so if you're interested, it's worth looking those up. There was a good write up on Twitter on this subject from someone who lives in Japan, but I never saved the link. :(

The ending wasn't perfect, but I feel they handled it better than in Persona 4. 4's ending felt like an afterthought and it was anti-climactic after the fight with Adachi.

I have to ask, did you find and repair the broken laptop? That was one of my favorite surprises.

As confidants go, Death (Tae Takemi), Fortune, Temperance, Sun, and Star are all worth getting and completing as early as possible. The story is incredibly long though (my Japanese playthrough last year was 135+ hours), so you have time.

The translation isn't as outright terrible as some are claiming. A few lines are too literal or sound awkward, but that's about the extent of it. There's some things from the Japanese version that don't carry over to English.

I could never get into the "Persona" franchise but I have to admit the songs on the "Persona 5" soundtrack sound great. Thanks for sharing Mandi. smile.png

I saw "Acid Jazz" in the thread title and immediately clicked. Jazz is my favorite genre of music. ilikeitplz.png

The instrumental tracks are worth a listen, too.

The game is streamlined and improved from previous entries, so it's a good time to jump into it. But if you just didn't like the style of gameplay, then maybe avoid it. The style is beautiful, though. ahmagahplz.png

I'd seen some information about that, but want to take the time to really see exactly where all of the inspiration came from.  Something that struck me while playing is that a lot of the subject matter which is addressed within the game, while obviously particularly relevant to Japan, is also quite so for the rest of the world as well in some ways.  It's one of the few times I've actually felt that a game really matches up with the time that we're living in right now, and that made the experience so much more engrossing than even I'd expected.

I do think the Igor twist, particularly considering that it seems to have sprung from the fact that his original VA passed, was a masterstroke.  That said, I would say that there should have been more of a lag between the completion of Shido's Palace and their venture into the depths of Mementos, since there was an opportunity to really show off how unnerving and just 'wrong' things felt during that period.  I sort get why they did what they did (so the MC would be in for over a month, but be out by Valentine's Day), yet I think it would have been just as effective even if he was only locked up for a few weeks.

The actual ending though?  I liked how genuinely optimistic it was, in contrast to the atmosphere for most of the rest of the game.  Since it really drove home how these relationships extend so far beyond their role as the Phantom Thieves and the year that he spent in Tokyo.  They've well and truly freed themselves, even if things haven't changed quite as much as they might have wished.

Yes, I did actually!  laugh.png   Loved that little easter egg, and a bunch of the other small touches that can be found all over P5.  It's really rare that you find a game this large that has so many minute little details included; meant I spent a lot of time just looking around the world to see what I could find.

Hmm, for some reason this theme style is more similar to Guitar Hero and Rock Band than Persona lol but it looks cool though. ^^
