I'm second guessing going to college...

well im already in college. a junior/community college, and im debt free. state pays for my classes and i manage to pay for the books.

but since im graduating from the CC in a month, i gotta go to a real uni now and i have been working lately but it's not enough and my parents dont really want to contribute.

so far i got a fed loan of 5k for the next year, and i have like 5k in the bank so far.

but each yr is gonna cost me like 20k since i gotta live there and i really dunno if i should even go anymore... i dont want to be in debt rn and id probably have to take a bank loan out.

honestly, the main reason im going is to leave this ugly town and to live alone

i wish i looked into scholarships earlier, but the ones on the school site are all closed for this yr.

idk what to do tbh. i just want to live alone and move away.

drop out. its not like youre guaranteed a career after graduating. jk. whatever you're majoring in, you better be an expert in it already before you even start uni, because only the best of the best get jobs.

Here is my honest thoughts on Uni.

The fact that you are in a community college and are about to graduate is fabulous. GOOD job. I'm going to guess your age and say you're probably about 20-21 and if I'm correct, you're right on track. I want to tell you that the days where you can graduate high-school and go into university for four years and get a solid career are long over. That's done. It's cancelled. It's ovah. If you're not comfortable, or unsure, I believe that now is the time for you to instead just try to get a full time job in your career field. Take a break from school. It will always be there. After a certain amount of schooling you definitely run out of stamina and it is time to apply some real world experience as it will either 1) bolster your studies and give you real world experience to relate back to or 2) if you find that you hate the field, you can at least accomplish your degree and have that accomplishment as most jobs will take you as long as you graduated in something.

Your final sentence makes me think the matter of moving away from home is what's mostly pressuring you. While I don't know what country you live in or what your circumstance is, it is not that difficult to find job placement programs and to relocate once you're graduated even with a community college degree. Do not underestimate that. You may not be able to live alone per se depending on where you're trying to live, but don't think you have to jump right into university if you're not motivated or scared. There are options you can consider. Do not take on loans if you aren't prepared and ready for them and invested in the reason you're using them for.

If you're 100% not feeling it right now or not 100% sure about your major.... don't go right ahead into it. I know it's considered the "right" thing to do but honestly everyones college path is different. I also did the community college route because here in mass we do the MassTransfer program and it's so convenient and really helps reducing student loan debt. I'm in the same boat as you! i'm a Junior transfering to a 4 year in the fall. But yea if you're not feeling it right now for whatever the reason...don't do it! Wait till it's right.

Are there any public universities in your area you can go to? and maybe you can dorm there or find an apartment for cheaper?

Going to university is an investment. You just need to look f its profitable for you to go. Choose your major wisely. Something you like and gives you good career options. You will be in debt for lets say 60k but how much will you be making when your done? If the degree you have now gives you the same options, for instance money wise then yeah i woul think hard about going to uni...
