their debut was very successful, everyone knew about them, the five of them are talented and they have good visuals, even their visual ren can sing. but after Hello they went downhills (failed chinese debut, korean hiatus, bad management...).

Thanks to Produce 101, I was reminded of them again, and got to know them better than ever. learned their names and discovered their charms, it feels good seeing people now talking about them and seeing pann posts about them.

I found this youtube video that sumerizes their journey, introduced the members and gave basic informations about them. watching them hear what a failure they are in front of their faces and them to wishing to be successful broke my heart. (go to 34:00 if your heart is strong)

they all really seem to get along together very well and you can see that in P101 too, their bond is too strong.

I started going through their old songs, and i downloaded their first album Re:Birth, what a masterpiece!. when i looked for the songs english subbed on youtube they had veryy little views although it was released 2 years ago. it's a loss because the songs were high quality. let me share some.

Storybook: enjoy the visuals <3

with english subs:

Lend me your shoulder

Big deal

Love without love

Good bye bye

Climax

I hope they keep showing their talent in Produce 101, so far they rocked their stage mission so I hope they will more people to their fandom.

I was always a girl group stan, then I watched Produce 101, and Baekho (stop looking so manly!!!! I'm so glad he dyed his hair back to black though; I feel that black suits him better than blonde) and Minhyun stole my heart.

Especially Baekho, I just love this type of super masculine male idols:

Gonna start listening to Nu'est now. I am sad that Pledis kinda ignored them, but I am kinda glad that I get to know them because of Produce 101.

because pledis can do no shit right and if seventeen wasn't so good at taking care of themselves the company'd be already on bankrupt.

-kind regards, a salty hello venus, kahi, after school, son dambi, orange caramel, nu'est and seventeen fan

I still shed bitter tears for Hello Venus.

*though that probably wasn't Pledis' fault but Fantaggio's anyhow Pledis sux*

I liked their debut song and I remember being a fan of them, but I think they just became irrelevant bc they came out at a time when big names like EXO and BAP were coming out :( so they lost traction post-debut and their subsequent songs were just never that catchy.

And I think having someone that one person/center who 'stands out' in terms of variety, acting, and other talents would have gained them more recognition :o but I can't see any of their personalities going into variety or mc'ing

Everyone blames management but if you see their discography, they're pretty adequately promoted!!! They release at least 1 song every year - sometimes it's luck and timing D:

Bad management, luck and timing.  What didn't help is that Pledis's biggest hits weren't produced in house, they were produced by brave-bros - so the ones really making bank became brave-ent.  what that means is their primary income would be from performance/appearance fees and cfs.

Dambi made bank in her prime, but the k-pop landscape changed - she performed at a time where the performers mystique was still prized, now everyone wants to know everything about everyone.  things started going downhill after queen when the mv got accusations of plagiarizing scenes from some alice in wonderland thing (the accusations were of scenes looking similar) and what didn't help were the morons getting e-boners of MR videos because that was the shiny new thing also. (got criticisms at the time for heavy breathing whilst dancing, and everyone expected it to sound exactly like a standing soloist - now, it's an acceptable level of being human)

Same thing with Afterschool except the difference is that after AS had their big hit in B.O.Y they ended up spending excessive effort for very little reward, and they were always trying to chase the next trend or create one in concepts that are otherwise inaccessible to the layman.  eg: Afterschool used google+ rather than facebook, they came back with drumming, tap dancing, pole dancing - which is easy to admire, but its not like you can imitate it like the standard dance routine.

It's sorta like when rainbow learned synchronized swimming for ISAC and it barely got shown at first, and even after it did it didn't contribute to making their next song a hit.

What it all translates into is less money overall for sustained heavy promotions and smaller room for failure.  That's sorta changed since SvT which I thought was a dumb idea at the time, but ended up turning out to be the best decision by pledis as it also marked the shift from being just a company that simply trains and houses performers, to one that nurtures artists.  The end result is more cash to the artist + the benefit of the younger creative sensibilities in the tracks produced.  Yet at the same time, it also placed Nu'est instantly as one of pledis's legacy groups which one could argue was made obsolete in the presence of SvT.

TLDR

Right now, in pd101s2, Nu'est is going through a massive public re-introduction, re-invigoration, re-imagining ~ if they manage to find success in the show and then do well after (whether they place or not) after their long drought, it really would be like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

I agree, and that's what I hope for. At the end of the day, more people were introduced not only to NU'EST, but to the members as individuals; to their kind and humble personalities and stage presence. Whether they make it into the 11, or not, I hope that at least they can walk away from Produce 101 with pride that they did their best and are acknowledged for it.

Listen to their Japanese album as well! It has 9 original Japanese tracks (one bonus solo for Minhyun on version B), has tracks that are familiar to their earlier urban electro releases but with a Jpop twist!
