I'm not ready for the french elections

the first round of the elections is next sunday

and there are 4 candidates that are dominating right now

only 2 of them will remain after the first round

this is nerve wrecking and I'm kinda really scared right now

ever since the candidates started campaigning for the elections here

there's been several twists and many candidates that were high in the polls

ended up falling further down, some have risen up

anyways my point is anything could change any moment

nobody can be sure about the outcome of this election

it stresses the hell out of me,

I mean when I look at what happened in the UK and US

tho Hillary won the popular vote and Trump only won cause of the electoral college

and we don't have one here in France, that snake Marine Lepen

her program is comparable to Trump's, she's like first or second

depending on the polls

if she does win I don't know what I would do tbh

some y'all gonna say that I'm over reacting but I could end up being deported

back to my home country because even if I have french citizenship

I wasn't born here plus I'm gay and she ain't give no fucks about gay people

and even if you look at the 2 other candidates that are high in the polls

most of them will basically make working conditions worse and raise taxes

to profit huge companies and rich people, they don't care about woman's right

and let's not even talk about homosexuals and other minorities

my only hope is Mélenchon let's compare him to Bernie

he wants to transition from nuclear energy to more ecologic ones

he wants to stop tax evasion, decrease the working hours to 32 hours per week

he wants women to be paid just as much as men if they have the same job

and much much more, I just feel like among all the 4 candidates on top of polls atm

he's the only one that talk about things that really matters

but a lot of people here just dismiss him because they think that his program is unrealistic

anyways I ended rambling about the whole situation

and I'm not professional so everything I said is approximative

but I'm scared and all I wanna say is that they don't really care about us

Marine will get to the 2nd round for sure, probably against Macron (equivalent to usa's democrats for those wondering). I'm voting Mélenchon anyway.

I woundn't say Macron is making workers life worse, definitely not like Fillon, but he's ultraliberal (already a big negative point for me) and I really don't trust his person. He seems the fakest to me.

That definitely won't happen, that's not her project. You know what ? Even if she get elected people will realize the fraud, she will never be elected again. That's 5 years to endure.

who are the candidates for the election besides LePen?

(I don't live in France)

LePen (far right) ~ 25%

Macron (economic and social liberal - center) ~ 20/25%

Mélenchon ( socialist/communist - left/far-left) ~ >15 %

Fillon ( conservative - right/far-right) ~ <20%

he isn't ultraliberal at all. He's liberal.

Actually he's "neoliberal". I misused the word "ultraliberal".

neoliberal means everything and nothing. He's not.

He's more social-liberal than anything. He has plans more liberal than the PS/left (like for his plans regarding Labour law and stuff) and also a lot of ideas from the left. His platform is built around Labour, which is very Marxist, but his idea of it is more balanced and want more power and flexibility for both the workforce and the businesses (although in practice it might not give more power to the workforce bc of the unemployment rates). But he also wants a lot of measures that are traditionally French socialist (which is his political upbringing anyway, and his detractors like to point out his support is looking a lot like hollande gvt), regarding healthcare, an equal system of retirement pensions, more help for students etc

that's not her project on paper but she said things

before that suggest that it's what she really wants to do

she want to categorise french people "les français de souche"

those whose parent are both french, those who weren't born here etc

nowadays she kinda watered down her stances because she wants

to appeal to a larger audience

and when it comes to Macron

he doesn't necessarily want to make working conditions worse

but when you look at what he did when he was still in the government

he surely isn't a socialist

I like Mélenchon and I never understood why he never participated before, but better late than never, it's actually a very good sign of political maturity to wait until he is really needed and here he is : I think he's the only real marxist in the left , Holland and his clan are a joke, the whole world saw it after the recent terrorist attacks , Valls speeches were more of a politician from the right than Lepen herself . Anyways, from the sight of it, french people wouldn't let that greedy woman take over , besides the french electoral system is different from the US so you can't compare both and expect the same result.
Mélenchon, on the other hand, is a bit infamous for his long time of silence, like you said , he reminds me of Bernie, but he has his tops and flops sometimes , he's more of a talker than a doer and it's a bit of a turn off. I like how he stood against the Khomri labour law it revealed a deep understanding of people's sufferings and needs and he succeeded in attracting a large number of supporters. Academics favour him as well so he has big chances.
But we also have to take in consideration the world's new order . So I wouldn't be surprised if something unexpected happens in the last minute.
I'm not french but I like french politics and discussions because they're very enlightening and France's issues today as a society are the same in many other societies around the world were it's forbidden to spell the tea upon such taboo subjects.

Marine Le Pen will win. It's just the direction the world is going.

le pen should win, people are realising that globalisation doesn't work especially when you include the cult of islam

Sorry but I think you should accept that Le Pen is probably going to win, after which France will go into economic free fall as her plans get pushed.

Brexit will make a vulnerable Britain follow suit, and from there global recession.

It's not the ideal but don't put all your emotions into the election trying ignore the likely outcome of Le Pen's victory. If she doesn't win you'll be happy, and if she wins you won't be like those people crying/screeching on TV after Trump won.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Le Pen has no shot at winning, like... Did you even follow he regional elections? Her party didn't win shit, if you weren't aware. She's going to be first in sunday, but she's not winning this. And I don't think Macron is either.

People said the same thing about Trump.

people said the same thing about Brexit.

Let's stop this thinking and take every threat to democracy seriously.
