Minzy looking more confident in Show Champion Performances

Yay she's starting not to be so nervous

After doing nothing at all between 2014 and 2017, anyone's skills would get rusty. She has to get used to the stage again, only then will she begin to perform as well as she used to. This, and the fact that the whole "super-feminine Minzy" thing isn't working. I mean, she isn't Amber and she never has been, but she's at her best when she's given a very different sort of choreographies and styling.

Just compare her past home-made choreography videos to her present performances, and you'll see that I'm right.

You know what, as a fan I've been kinda hard on her because I feel she can do better, but you made a good point about her being rusty due to inactivity for so long.

I hope this promotion cycle gets her back in the game and she comes back stronger sooner rather than later.  I'd also like to see her do some choreo that has a higher degree of difficulty.  Perhaps have an extra track that is dance focused instead where she doesn't have to worry about her vocals as much.

Honestly, people have been really hard on her. I've seen many comments even from BJs saying that Minzy just doesn't shine on her own. But people who've seen 2ne1's concerts or at least saw fancams of their concerts should know that Minzy can perform, AND that she definitely has stage presence and charisma.

It's not just her getting rusty either. She has mentioned that she lost her confidence after the whole fiasco that happened with 2ne1 in their last years. She said that she's just starting to get her confidence back. She honestly doesn't seem as self assured as she used to.

It also kinda shows in her mini album tbh. It's like she was too scared to decide on an actual musical direction that her mini ended up being kinda all over the place and nothing ended up standing out in the end because she played it too safe.

I know she has stage presence and charisma in group performances but even her solo song performances at 2ne1 concerts lacked something,  I was thinking about it and what came to me is she has stage presence when she is just dancing or just singing but it falls off when she has to do both at the same time for whole performances.  Just look at the Superwoman performance where there is only a little bit of dancing and usually not when singing and compare it to Ninano.  She can sing and dance at the same time very well but she loses some charisma.  It is like she is thinking about the steps and vocals instead of letting go and enjoying the performance.  I do think she will get there though in time.

I can believe she lost some confidence while on hiatus, but I haven't noticed that since she's been promoting.  I do think she looks rusty (mostly in her choreo) and I think that's why her stage doesn't have the usual charisma.  Tbh though, it's not like we've seen many solo Minzy stages.  She's had very little opportunities to build her skills as a solo artist so she needs to learn that part.  The first time I noticed her potential in that area was when she did 1,2,3,4 with Lee Hi.  She was confident and owned the stage on that performance.

In terms of her album, I actually thought the different styles were a plus and not a minus.  She herself said she wanted to show different sides of herself.  I just wish some of the tracks were tweaked just a bit more to really make them shine. If you're saying you want to show what you can do then do it and don't settle.  I do think she played it too safe with her title track though.  I think she'll have to learn to have an ear and eye for what to do in these situations since she's used to someone else making all these decisions for her.

If anything, I think she'll grow faster now because so much is on her shoulders.  CL gained a lot of her confidence because she had to step up to the challenge as the leader.  It forced her to grow in ways Minzy didn't really have to worry about because she just the maknae who did as she was told.

I hope she finds some good mentors who can really help her rise to the opportunity and won't let her settle for just being average.  Although her album didn't top the charts, most of the reviews I've read have been positive (the translated ones not from international fans).  I don't think she'll be able to live off her 2ne1 buzz in her next album so she'll need to step it up.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't think is a problem of losing confidence in herself only, but she is used to having the others with her, she only had what, two stages without them? And one of them was with Lee Hi so she wasn't really solo.

The charisma and the potential are there, honestly 2NE1 was always the CL and Minzy show for me in live performances, she just needs to step up her game now that she doesn't have the group to back her up. I also felt like she was holding back in both music shows stages, like she didn't want to go full on out and tone down the hard image she gave off in the group. I mean, she stated before that she is going for a more friendly and feminine image, I think is a shame tho badass Minzy will always be the best Minzy. Besides just getting rid of those horrible outfits yg stylists put on her and toning down on the eyeliner already covered that.

You make a valid point with the CL comparison, a lot of people don't give her enough credit but girl had to mature so fast at a young age and step up as the leader and source of strenght for the group. She had to look out not only for Minzy but for two people older than her, and I do believe she had a say in decision making unlike the rest. All that made her more confident and built her self esteem while also making her a more stronger individual, sure she may have her moments of self doubt, she is only human after all, but with all the shit that continues to be thrown her way to be able to stay true to herself it's admirable. Minzy is only now experiencg something similar and she already delivered a solid first mini, I get the impression she wanted to experiment more with genres this time around figuring out what suits her more and build from there for her next releases . As a fan I know she can do better and believe she will do better, because one thing Minzy has showed us is that she won't settle for less.

Agreed.  And I do hope she doesn't try to steer to far away to the fierce image she had.  I hope she finds a way to embrace her femininity while still keeping her strength.   I hope she doesn't let people's comments about her looks make her lose herself trying to be what she thinks they want to see or trying to gain their approval or praise in that area.
