Are you planning to or is currently taking master's degree? If you are, what's your motivation?

I'm in my last year and I'm around three months away from my final project / thesis finals and it got my stress level really high at the moment. During my early sem, I had a thought of getting master's but now that I'm doing final project, I'm scared of what's to come if I decide to pursue master's.

Thoughts please.

I think everyone is different. I love doing research and want to do it for the rest of my life so I wouldn't mind going straight into getting a Master's but even then I'm not sure if I am ready to go straight from getting my Bachelor's to my Master's. I might take a year or two off to work and save up money.

I think the thing with getting a Master's is that you have time. If you are too stressed currently to get one there's nothing wrong with taking a break first! It gives you time to decide if you'd like to pursue it as well.

I graduated with my bachelor's in December and am currently taking a year off for myself to save up money and to just get my stress levels down in general so I can go back to school next year for my master's. My reasons to pursue a master's degree are to escape from "the real world" for a little longer, to experience life in another country (I'm likely going to go take my master's degree abroad) and to gain more knowledge and spend more time on research on a subject that interests me, so basically, to broaden my horizons and learn more about the world.

I was also really stressed during my senior year and honestly until the last few weeks before graduation I had no idea what I want to do afterwards. It's only now that I've taken time off for myself that I've started realizing where I want to go from here and to get an idea of what I want to pursue in the future. So, if you're feeling like you'll need a break after you graduate, I say go for it. Taking time for yourself to try out new things, figure out what you want, is worth it.

If it's stressing you, take a gap year first. I postponed my bachelor degree graduation for almost 2 years (i'll graduate this october) because too much stress not only with school but with other stuffs too. I like studying and i'd love to get master's degree so i could meet expertise learners on my field. My plan is to take it in 2-3 years so i could get more work experience first and save money for paying tuition.

Seeing my friends who pursue master's degree right now, you have to be really sure you want to take it now. Master's degree is way much difficult than bachelor's degree, much more time and mental consuming.

Do you have any idea what masters programme to enrol in future after you graduate? If not or unsure, as others above mentioned, might be a good idea to take a year or two to either travel abit and get some work experience. Preferably in a related field of your degree. Volunteer work while traveling abroad actually could help to boost your resume.

Instead of a full master's programme, maybe you can consider a post graduate diploma that could be converted into a masters programme in future when you decide to pursue a masters. For mine, after graduation, I worked full time while pursuing a PGDa on a part time basis (1.5-2years) My results were good enough to be invited by my uni lecturers/mentor to convert my research to a full masters programme (an additional 1.5-2years). I accepted it but had to defer it for now.

I felt totally burnt out after my bachelors, but during the summer after I'd finished, ended up changing my mind and was enrolled for masters by september laugh.png for me it was a good decision. I got to live somewhere other than my home city (unlike during my bachelors), I got to move in with my girlfriend, and I got to study a subject that's not an option for undergraduates in my country. I also know if I hadn't gone on to do masters immediately, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gone back to education after a break. The pull of earning money and having a 'real' life would have been too big. So yeah I think you have to be honest with yourself. Do you WANT to do a masters (as opposed to thinking you should)? Do you NEED to do one for your career? Would you want to come back after a break?

I graduated with my bachelors degree last October and after the stress of my final year at Uni I wasn't ready nor was I even sure if I wanted to carry on studying. So I took a break to get some real work experience and during this break I have figured out what I really want to do and that is to start my Masters degree this September in a different field (which I love).

I graduated last year. Before, I planned on working for a while then pursue a postgrad degree in a different field, but after I entered my final year my thesis project got me too stressed and burnt out it made me swear off any further studying that comprises of research.

I simply can't imagine putting myself through the same mental torture again lol but don't let my negative opinion affect your take on it. Good luck if you decide to continue!

lol after finishing my final exam when i did my bachelor degree i gave up and ditched the whole idea of master's degree

i just couldn't handle the stress of assignments piling up and exams here and there for another 1-1,5 years

also the needs might depend on where you live

people in my country (Indonesia) can get by with just bachelor degree

because even if you have master's degree, you will most likely start from entry role in the corporate with minimum salary

best plan is to pursue master's degree once you have some experience in working

Unless you're studying something like psychology and need it to get a job, I wouldn't bother. Focus your energy on getting practical experience instead.

I have a bachelors in engineering and a master's couldn't compare with my on-the-job experience.

I wanted the benefits of getting higher chance in getting my application picked as well as having higher position, so I figured anything that comes could be arranged afterwards. What do you think about it?

I was aiming to build experiences through jobs while studying for business master's after getting my graphic design bachelor's so that later on I can build my own thing. My head always screams at me to take it early because I think the earlier the better, but now I'm reconsidering. ;;

This sums up what I'm feeling right now, lol. I'm halfway through and I'm already so sick of researching, and I know there's even more and more research going to happen if one is doing master's.

I live in the same land but I'm thinking of working abroad, seeing the current condition of creative industry in the country. ;;

if u come from creative industry background then it's a different story

almost all my friends go to overseas for job or higher ed

tbh this country is not supportive enough yet for creative industry people ;;
