Have you ever studied abroad before?

Yep, one of my required classes for my major (upper division genetics) when I was in university was offered as a summer study abroad course so I jumped on the chance to take it, especially since my financial aid grant covered half the cost of the trip. One week of the course was spent in Brno, Czech Republic where the Mendel Museum is located and the remaining 3 weeks were spent in Cambridge, England at Clare College (where there was a sculpture of the DNA double helix in front of our dormitory). It was really fun and I enjoyed taking a class outside of the normal lecture hall environment.

And two years ago I studied abroad again for a summer at Seoul National University with my sister as part of their International Summer Institute program since, well, if I went with her both she and I could get a 20% siblings discount off the tuition fee, plus since our university was associated with SNU, that's another 10% off the fee, and my sister wanted to do at least one study abroad course before she graduated anyway.

I guess it's boring to me because I've lived here for so long. It also depends on what part of TX you're going to.

It would be Austin. I know, I know... I am an East Coast city hipster stereotype. imstupid.png

It's something that I would definitely love to do!

Here in my university, it's quite feasible given how there are quite a lot of opportunities for students to embark on exchange programs for a semester.

I personally am interested in Japan/Brazil/Amsterdam.

I have friends who are in Germany/Canada/Brazil now and who are having the time of their lives. I think for us one of the biggest takeaways about studying abroad would have to be the exposure to a whole new culture and way of life (especially when coming from a small Asian country like ours! Sometimes I feel that we don't realise how small minded we actually are until we venture out and beyond - but that's just my two cents!)

Which countries are you looking at!

I mean I've moved country while I was studying if that counts.

It's valuable as an experience to see how different cultures live and study. Usually it makes you value certain aspects of your home-country more, for me I value the system in my country way more now.

It's sometimes a lot more complicated than you might think though. Do you have any health problems? Will your University supply accommodation? Will they finance you? If not, where will you get the money from? Can you put any of it on your resume or is it just for your own benefit? There are a lot of things you need to weigh up to measure whether it's worth it for you.

I studied abroad for 4 years and just returned to my home country for good this January.

Experience-wise, in addition to the similar answers given by other people, living in a different environment helped me to view the politics and socioeconomics of own homecountry from a new perspective.
