hypocrisy 101? the sad truth behind moonbok's bandwagon hate

as most of you probably know, jang moonbok is a buzz contestant on produce 101 season 2. viral audition years ago --> got bullied to hell for it and did military service early--> became super popular among korean males.

 

jang moonbok gets a lot of hate despite his fandom. probably gets the most hate this season from i-fans and k-fangirls alike. 

 

why? 

 

he's "ugly", he's "untalented". 

 

but wait a second. doesn't everyone whine about how people are only voting for trainees based on their looks? but yet when an unconventionally attractive man is dong well, he's "ugly" and therefore doesn't deserve anything?

 

but wait a second. there are other popular F rank trainees, some of who are in top 11 right now. they don't get any backlash. moonbook is working just as hard as them, but they don't get a smidge of the criticism he does. why? they're conventionally attractive. a double standard as old as time. 

 

and moonbok isn't even the only one suffering from hypocrisy 101. samuel and daehwi, two extremely talented young men, constantly get ragged on for their looks. i thought talent was more important? so why does the standard switch when it comes to certain people? 

 

 

i thought everyone knew produce 101 was a popularity contest already. what's the point of taking it out on people who are just trying to live their lives, who are just trying to make their dreams happen?

he gets more comments about him being all rounder and being attractive than comments about his nose tbh I don't think he is a good example of him getting bashed for his looks.  this what I've seen from youtube comments even on produce 101 other trainees were praising him for having a small face.

Y'all are being simple as hell. I think it's cute that you want to defend him, but this is literally a show that is built on the premise of judging. You enter this competition under full understanding that you are going to be critiqued from top to bottom. I'll fully admit that all I've seen of Moonbok is his first ranking performance and it was bad. Like. It was very bad. He deserved the rank he got fully. As far as people bashing his looks, I'mma leave that alone for now, but critique of his skill is completely valid because 1.) that's the point of the show you all agreed to watch and 2.) His performance was, again, bad. I'm literally sorry for how not sorry I am about that. It's not "bandwagon hate" if the hate on his performance was earned.

I mean I can't argue with the talent part, hell, most of the Moonbok fans had low enough expectations for it that we were actually shocked that he did better than what we initially expected.

 

But there are fangirls going to events who are yelling at him to die and cussing him out, that, imo, is the more fucked up part. (especially since he's contemplated suicide before)

looks like you completely missed the entire point of this thread. the point is the HYPOCRISY. there are other F rank people who are super popular but no one attacks them. moonbook literally got yelled at in person and told to die by k-fangirls at an event yesterday supposedly while they simultaneously vote for their own F ranked favs and put them in top 11. he didn't do anything to get that type of hate. THAT'S the point. 

 

also, moonbok's performance wasn't even the worst. let that sink in. HIS PERFORMANCE WASN'T EVEN THE WORST ONE. yet what does he get? hated on, called names, attacked, degraded. he gets called overrated when the guy who is currently number one is literally there for a one second shot of him winking. literally.
