Celebrity worship syndrome (CWS) is an obsessive addictive disorder in which a person becomes overly involved with the details of a celebrity's personal and professional life.

There are 6 of classifications of it, 4 are common among Kpop fans:

Love obsessional

As the name suggests, individuals who demonstrate this sort of stalking behavior develop a love obsession with somebody who they have no personal relation to.

Entertainment-social

This level of admiration is linked to a celebrity’s ability to capture the attention of their fans. Entertainment-social celebrity worship is used to describe a relatively low level of obsession. An example of a typical entertainment-social attitude would be “My friends and I like to discuss what my favorite celebrity has done.â€

Intense-personal

This is an intermediate level of obsession that is associated with neuroticism as well as behaviors linked to psychoticism. An example of an intense-personal attitude toward a celebrity would include claims such as “I consider my favorite celebrity to be my soul mate.â€

Borderline-pathological

This classification is the most severe level of celebrity worship. Often, it is expressed by statements like “If someone gave me one thousand dollars, I would consider spending it on a sanitary napkin used by my favorite celebrity.â€

I was thinking about how fascinating it is that we are from different countries, cultures and have drastically different personalities and lifestyles, yet the one thing we have in common is Kpop. That could be considered a question of taste except that Kpop is very varied. Any Idol fall within the Kpop umbrella, whether they sing ballads, Electro music or Rap. Kpop is also not something we hear about all the time on TV and our national medias, it's something we searched for, and the Kpop fans among us who decided to join a forum solely dedicated to it and to similar genres like Jpop and Cpop are clearly emotionaly invested in Kpop idols themselves.  So what do we really have in common? The above is your answer.

Sooo....where do you fall on the spectrum of CWS 0u0plz.png

How to unsee omgwtf.png

To answer ur question probably entertainment social

Reading that reminded of the girls from Reply 1997 and Reply 1994. They were sniffing their Idols sweaty tshirts eww. Also in "You're beautiful" this ajhumma related to an Idol group used to steal their stuff and sell it to the highest bidder. Let's not forget the one who sneaked into Exo's dorm and stole one of the members underwear (I think D.O's) and tried to sell it online, it still had his pubic hair in it omgwtf.png Also recently Somi auctioned her Taekwondo unifrom and it got sold at 700$ which is a freaking 700000 won.

I stan don't stalk. I'm not an obsessed chick

Stan is a word composed of: Stalk + fan = Stan. Most fans stalk in the digital world. Intl Kpop fans judge sasaengs all the time, then when a Kpop Idol visit their countries, you see the crazy obsessive behaviour come out

Is that the medical name for it

Yes.

Well then I am just a chill fan... I didn't know about the origin of the word "stan" tho. I have never been in a concert and I'll probably never be in one, I hugely dislike how concerts are, so stressful... If I had the chance to meet my UB or one of biases I would react as a chill as* fan because they don't know me, I'm a stranger for them and it would be really weird to act like my life has been completed when I finally met them. Tbh they're "strangers" for me too since I can't consider to know someone if I haven't even shared a word with them face to face or something related to that. Is a complicated situation  ohdearplz.png .

i feel like throwing up reading that rlytearpls.png

i'm aware of this infatuation i feel towards Eun Jiwon, it hurts so much cause I know that it's impossible.

Yet I keep on obsessing OTL

But, I'm not one to spend any money towards the artists that I like. Unless there's an opportunity to meet them up close and personal, then i might consider it. Tho my hatred towards any social activities might hinder that too! ahmagahplz.png

I can spend $100 at the most to see EXO up close if they come to my country which is impossible and I'm not someone who would fly all the way to Korea to see them , I would jam to their songs but not discuss about them with others cz I don't know any  Kpop fans here. Neither will I overreact if I ever get to see them .

So I guess kinda entertainment social

I used to suffer from it years ago with a western celeb, but having all crash down made me so cynical of celebrities i sometimes think they have a ulterior motive behind thier image. I sadly came into kpop with that cynicism. :( I now just learn never to worship or put celebs on a pedistal.

I will never let it get that bad ever again.

thats why u should get a boy hun

I was curious about why people get attached to celebrities, mere strangers and I found this. Especially with Kpop, people are not in it just for the music but for the personality and the looks as well. People defending Idols as if they were personaly attacked and caring to much for someone they don't even know...

I don't need any boy, I'm as asexual as it can get.
