It was revealed on February 24 that Hallyu idol groups SHINee and EXO will be appointed the honorary ambassadors of Gangnam on February 26 and 28 respectively.

This seems to be an attempt to further promote tourism in Gangnam.  Already acts such as the construction of a Tourism Information Center and the managing of a Gangnam city tour trolley bus were put into effect back in 2012, not to mention they approved effective as 50.8% (5,100,000) of foreign tourists made sure to visit Gangnam last year!

With the help of SHINee and EXO as new ambassadors, it appears Gangnam will be even more attractive for tourists!  The goal is to now attract 8,000,000 tourists annually.  Starting next month, images of SHINee and EXO will be plastered everywhere, such as airport passenger terminals, as a means for publicizing Gangnam.

Chief of Gangnam Shin Yeon Hee said, "As one of Gangnam's characteristics is being the hot spot for entertainment agencies, SHINee and EXO as honorary ambassadors will greatly help attract foreign tourists.  Even in the future,  we will use all our energy in vitalizing the tourism business in order to become a Gangnam that is the first choice in Korea's tourism."

Psy was never the ambassador? it used to be Super Junior

Really I thought he was after Super Junior. Well he should be, I mean that probably would be the only reason I would go to Gangnam just to say I did when I got back. They're is way more interesting stuff to do in Korea than go look at rich people stuff. I can do that in the US.

gangnam is pretty boring tbh. unless you're into high end boutiques/shopping/retail.

coex mall doesn't seem to be doing that great either, last time i went they were renovating some parts of it and many stores had relocated elsewhere - it seemed pretty dead to me. not sure about now though.

majority of the cultural (more interesting) stuff are north of the han river.

*rich people stuff I can't afford and therefore looking at it will only be depressing

Yeah that sounds like about it xD

I'd probably only go to take a quick picture of all the Entertainment Agency buildings (SM,YG etc) and then leave xDD
