What is being an accounting major like?

It can be pretty challenging, especially once you get further in your studies. There will be a lot of number crunching involved. You'll probably learn about accounting theory, financial accounting, managerial accounting, internal and external auditing, taxation, etc. Most likely there will be a variety of mini problems on various topics (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, etc.) and integrated cases where you have to apply everything you've learned.

If you are planning to pursue accounting, make sure you go into a program that offers internships or Co-op so you gain valuable work experience while you are studying. You'll have a better chance of being employed right away once you graduate,

I was an accounting major for a semester and there was so much competition. Our GPA cut off was way higher than the other courses' and ai had to study extra hard. There was math obviously but it wasn't that bad (for me at least)

I'm a management major and I've had to take accounting classes. Personally, I think it's interesting/fun if you have a good professor. My current accounting professor is insanely unorganized and doesn't really know what she's teaching, so I'm struggling with liking the class at all. It's not boring, but I couldn't see myself studying it beyond the two classes that are required for me. If you get along well with numbers, have a fairly nice memory and are willing to dedicate a decent amount of time on studying/completing practice exercises, you'll be fine :-) The math is minimal though, which I appreciate. It doesn't really go that far beyond basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division.
