Nate: Will Tzuyu's Taiwan- China scandal be repeated?

Produce101's Lai Kuan Lin is now in controversy as he wrote that he is from China- Taiwan on his promotion letter. He got mixed reactions from China and Taiwan netizens. While China Netizens show support to him, Taiwan Netizens say he is the embarrassment of the country and want to exile him from Taiwan.

1. [+176, -8] The never ending fight between China and Taiwan ã…¡ã…¡

2. [+186, -22] Do whatever you want. . we don't care. Just not being a hindrance to Moon Bok's flowerly path

3. [+141, -5] Just figure it out by yourselves. . don't you ever dare dragging Korea into this again

4. [+20, -0] Let's not vote for Chinese contestant this time!

5. [+14, -5] I hope Chinese stop coming to Korea. China and Taiwan keep fighting, blaming and cursing at each other. In my eyes, they are the same

6. [+11, -7] So funny, it was Tzuyu's parents that asked her to apologize. Why you all keep blaming Park Jin Young. It was not him that forced Tzuyu to apologize. It was her parents. What's Park Jin Young wrongdoings?

7. [+11, -2] Tzuyu got hates from China for holding Taiwan flag. This guy got hates from Taiwan for writing he is from China- Taiwan. Honestly no matter how much hates they got, their celebrity career would not be affected

8. [+10, -2] Chinese and Taiwanese, just fight between yourselves. What are you doing in Korea's program?

9. [+7, -2] Just abolish Penisducer!!

10. [+6, -9] I hope this would be resulted to Chinese can not do activities in Korea anymore

the moonbok comments are kinda getting irritating now...

poor guy deserves to be proud of his hometown though

He himself wants to win votes by stating his political stance.

No Taiwanese would ever put China before Taiwan when writing anything, he is just smart counting all the votes he could get but forgot to watch the THADD news that's happening right now

Was it his choice or the choice of his agency? That's rhetorical, of course, because I'm sure you (or anyone else here, including me) don't know the answer. I would guess his agency pressured him into writing it that way.

Nah this guy is claiming homself Chinese already, and Taiwanese aren't exactly that aggressive as to start a net war concerning moles.

We got used to it, he has got freedom to choose to appeal to Chinese, I don't like that, but that's his choice.

The kid probably just wrote down whatever his agency told him to. They didn't want the boycott in China but now he faced the anger from his hometown. There is no win win situation, he has to pick side, whatever less damage to his career.

Just like Nordstrom got tough situation with the Trump's daughter brand. They faced boycott either way, so they picked the less damage one.

Honestly, this type of comment is extremely misleading. It's not really a fight "between" anyone. It's the PRC forcing their agenda onto the people of Taiwan. You can see this EVERYWHERE: At the olympics, at the UN, in general trade deals and issues of political recognition. Anyone who cannot see this or refuses to understand that it's not much of a two-way battle at this point has to be willfully ignorant. Until a proper settlement is reached, people from Taiwan should be free to say they're from Taiwan and leave it at that. As of now it's the equivalent of North Korea pressuring people from the ROK to say they're from the DPRK. And this poor kid was obviously nervous and knew the repercussions of not saying China's preferred answer. We've already seen how it is and anyone who keeps up with global politics knows it can get a lot worse than what the average person has even seen.
