Hi, may i know why everyone been hating on Lai Guanlin? I mean he is taiwanese but people keep saying he is chinese. And some said otherwise. Do you know whats the actual problem?

Lai Guan Lin mentioned, referring himself as a Chinese Taiwanese. It's not something new. In fact, Tzuyu was swept in a controversy because she called herself a Taiwanese instead of a Chinese.

Chinese believes that Taiwan is under China, while Taiwan likes to think that they're independent from China. It's basically different ideologies from different countries. So it will be controversial anyhow, if he starts to talk about nationality. And it has already been a controversy for Lai Guan Lin back in Taiwan. There are news about him on P101, and about him claiming himself as a Chinese Taiwanese.

It's a risky move, in my opinion. He should have just said he's from Taipei, instead of referring to his nationality.

Then again, I guess it's unavoidable. But whoever who are hating on him, I hope they stop and realize that he's just a 16 year old. The fight over politics have been there for some time, and it's not wise to put such burden on a 16 year old.

)))))))

It seems that it was caused by what he wrote here

I feel like the poor kid actually wanted to avoid a Tzuyu-like controversy by saying something like that and being diplomatic but it backfired on him instead

the poor kid knows nothing. The whole show is scripted. Its either Cube or Mnet who dont know what they are doing. I'll be rooting for him still!

If you were from Taiwan and you said Taiwanese, you got hate from Chinese. You said you're Chinese, you got hate from Taiwanese. You said Chinese Taiwan, you got hate from both. You just can't escape the hate~

I will feel sad if they make a fuss out of this and use it to drag him down. It's never easy to be a citizen of a country/region which sovereignty is still under dispute. In any case he's prone to receive backlash from either Chinese or Taiwanese, depending on how he states his origin is.
