Amazing Story on How Humble Selena Was!

Every now and then, I go on YouTube and I look at her appearances on music award shows and for example, this person on YouTube explain why it took so long for her to accept her award at the 1993 Tejano Music Awards.  She was sweet, humble and down-to-earth human being.

Her delayed entrance starts at 6:26, and here's the explanation why:

"Jose Behar (EMI's founder) actually told the real story as to why Selena took so long to go up on that stage to accept her award. Earlier in the show their was a mix up where they announced the wrong winner. They had given an award to another female artist when the award was actually for Selena. The staff at TMA took the award back and went up to Selena to tell her about the mix up. You would think she would have been excited to have gotten another award under her belt but nope. Selena got really upset to the point where she was crying tears of disappointment. She told the TMA staff that she couldn't imagine how the other artist must have felt knowing she's the reason they snatched the award away from her, Selena refused to accept the award. But a few minutes later Jose and Abraham (her father) calmed her down and convinced her to just accept the award cause now that the other artist knows the award was actually meant for Selena she wouldn't have accepted it. Just shows how much Selena really cared about others and how all this fame and award stuff never really got to her heard."

*Side note:  I also rememeber reading that she was supposed to perform at the 1994 Grammy Awards, but declined because she said "that was for superstars".
