MAGIC THE GATHERING DECK TECH: R/B AGGRO

Para-DX

Recommended Posts

Have you ever wondered: how fast can a game of Magic the Gathering goes? Like maybe a T5 kill or simply, go all-in at your opponent recklessly? If you are looking for that kind of thrill, then i am sure this deck is just for you, and at the paper cost of $70 and an online price at 17 tix? Wow! Let's take a look, shall we? But before we begin, all the cards' prices are measured according to TCGPlayer.com median price. Nonetheless, let's start rollin'~~~

Rakdos Aggro: is a fast, efficient agggressive deck that aims to wrap up a game as fast as possible, with the intention of dealing massive damages at your opponent recklessly every turn, without holding back. This deck plays a ridiculously low mana-curve, with 16 cards being 1-mana, and 12 cards being 2-mana and finally, 9 3-mana spells to end the curve. So how does this deck works?

We will talk about the creatures first. Bomat Courier and Inventor Apprentice are our 1-mana beatsticks for this deck, both having impressive ability. Bomat Courier is a 1/1 1-mana artifact creature with haste, and whenever it attacks, you exile the top card of your deck face down. You can then sacrifice the Bomat Courier for 1 red mana and discarding the cards in your hand for the cards that was exiled by the creature. It has an early game advantage and pressure despite having such a low power. However the downside of this creature is that, it is kind of underpowered in late game. Nonetheless, the ability of letting you to swap cards in your hand is a good way to refresh your hand. Let's just say, if you are flooded with land cards, you can simply dump them to the Graveyard and exchanged for a new set of cards exiled from Bomat Courier.

Inventor's Apprentice, just like Bomat Courier, is a 1-mana red Human Artificer creature but with 1 extra toughness. This card is good as the fact that it can be a 2 power beater if you control an artifact (in this case, Bomat Courier and the other artifacts which i will talk about it later). Furthermore, in late game, it could be a good blocker or maybe, a game ender.

Forerunner of Slaughter is a 2-mana 3/2 devoid Eldrazi Drone creature that have the ability to give other creature haste as long as you can pay an extra mana. It is also a powerhouse in late game, providing a huge damage, or another regular blocker.

Scrapheap Scrounger is one of our all-star piece in this deck. It is persistent threat on the field, being able to reanimate itself from the Graveyard as long as you have spare creature fodders in there for Scrapheap Scrounger. Even the flavor text is so spicy~ the downside of this card is: it can't block any creatures but in that case, it can be use as an reckless attacker during combat.

Pia Nalaar is our 2-for-1 freebie. As a 3-mana 2/2 red Human Artificer Legendary creature that provides an extra attacker/blocker/fodder on the field. Feel like getting in for that lethal damage? Just sacrifice an artifact and make sure an opponent's creature can't block while you drive your way to Valuetown with all the lethal damages. Pia Nalaar can pump up our creatures if needed, providing if you have the consistent 2-mana for your creatures.

Weldfast Engineer is our other tiny Lord. A 3-mana 3/3 red-black Human Artificer that pumps up one of our artifact creatures at the beginning of our combat? Sign me up! Don't belittle this Human artificer because most of the time, i close up the game with a 5/2 Scrapheap Scrounger while having a Pia Nalaar on field, ready to pump up my Scrapheap Scrounger anytime.

As for the noncreature spells, we are having a tons of burn spells, spot removal spells and sometimes, conditional removal spells that can get in for extra damage. Incendiary Flow is our only 2-mana red sorcery spell that deals 3 damage to target creature or player. Don't like your opponent's creature? Just flow it and if that creature was been destroyed, exile it instead. Feel like short on a few points of damage while your opponent is tapped out, and having 3 life? Flow him/her and win the game.

Shock is our 1-mana red instant spell that deals 2 damage to target creature or player, except the "exiling creature" part. This is the Lightning Bolt for Standard and although it have 1 less damage than Bolt, but it is our alternate wincon anyway.

Unlicensed Disintegration is 3-mana red-black instant spell that blow up a creature and if you control an artifact, you deal 3 damage to that creature's controller. This may be one of the best removal spell currently in Standard with no downside (unless it got countered by a counterspell which most likely, least to happen)

What if you ran out of burn spell while your opponent is at the life total of 1? Fret not, we still have one more trick up in the sleeve - Implement of Combustion, latest card printed in Aether Revolt; a 1-mana artifact that you can pay 1 red mana anytime to deal 1 damage to target player (i repeat, target player ONLY), and you get to draw a card while this artifact goes to the Graveyard. You can call this an artifact cantrip.

Okay, now we learnt about all the spells, what about the manabase? Don't worry because we are running 21 lands, since our mana-curve is quite low, so it is not advisable to go beyond the mentioned amount as you might get mana-sink or flooded with lands during late game. These 21 lands includes 4 Spire of Industry, 4 Foreboding Ruins (oir only dual-land that provides the mana color we needed for this deck), and of course, 9 basic Mountains and 8 basic Swamps.

What about the sideboard? Well, it could be up to the metagame in your local card store but i would strongly some control and/or midrange spells so that you won't get overwhelmed by the current meta decks in Standard (e.g. Mardu Vehicles, Golgari Aggro, and Jeskai Saheeli-Felidar Guardian combo decks).

And bonus, i made the deck so here is an sample decklist, which only cost about 40 bucks, because mainly i pre-owned most of the decks:

So well, we have come to the end of MTG Deck Tech. Leave a comment below and tell me what you think about the deck. After all, Magic the Gathering is all about fun and laughter over the kitchen table with friends, or you can duke it out at FNMs in your local card stores every Friday Night. Ciao~

UPDATE:

I have built up my sideboard but i realized that, it would be more better to have some of the sideboard cards be used in mainboard instead.

My current sideboard:

2x Dust Stalker

2x Transgress the Mind

4x Pick the Brain

2x Tears of Valakut (good against Mardu Vehicles)

2x Welding Sparks (or maybe 3)

2x Fleetwheel Cruiser
