small companies overtaking big three companies in the near future isn't as far fetched as it used to seem?

1 SM

2 Bighit

3 JYP

4 Pledis

5 YG

currently bighit and pledis both have one major physical album seller, bts and seventeen respectively. both of these groups alone were able to beat yg who currently have the active winner and ikon as major physical sellers (tho ik they didn't release much last year) and bts was able to beat jyp who has twice, got7 and 2pm as physical sellers.

of course this is just a slice of the overall pie. pledis and big hit still need to be able to recreate their successful groups, pledis could soon with pristin, and keep their current acts stable. then there's company reputation and touring sales and other business expenditures ect ect. but it's just interesting to see how certain companies are actually able to breech the big three 'wall' in even one area. can't wait to see what this year holds.

Ok but those are only albums sales. It takes a lot more than that to be a big company.

Just because other companies are growing doesn't mean the Big 3 are stagnating, they're growing just as much if not more.

Also SM YG and JYP are considered a part of the Big 3 because of their legacy and contribution to the Korean music industry, and this is smth the success of other companies can't erase.

not in the near future because of what you said - they only have one successful group at the time and there's no certainty they will have more in the future. Also people forget that big3 is not just about idol groups - it's actors, models, entertainers and also other investements as in real estates, etc. I mean I'm not saying they'll never get there but I doubt that it'll be a near future.

Cube is not in a decline, it declined already but now they are in a stable position.

Unlike smaller companies like Bighit and Pledis, the Big 3 don't solely rely on entertainment endeavours for their cash flow... SM has stakes in tourism, restaurants, clothing, etc... so it'll take more than one successful group to overtake them.

low key any company that is not big three is a small company. and big hit was completely nugu before bts hit big in like 2015. and pledis is just on a recent comeback with seventeen.
