Many people, have their own views and opinions on the LGBTQ community and you are welcome to it. Whether you are for or against it based on religious beliefs, family beliefs or cultural beliefs. However, it is important to note that as human beings we do not have the power to judge others. So whether you believe in a persons way of life or not, their judgment is not up to you or I. The most we can hope for is that we all live with the same rights as human beings and if or when the time comes for their judgment, whatever higher power is in charge will judge.

I decided to write this OP-ED on Starship Ent because of the fact that they are one of the few Korean Entertainment companies who is comfortable and brave enough to go beyond what is expected and show as many sides to human beings as possible.

Starship has done several LGBTQ themed MV's.

1. The most prominent one would be K.Wills Please Don't.

The MV tells of a story of three friends (2 guys, 1 girl). It contains the biggest plot twist of any kpop MV in history. Take a look.

2. Along the way we've also had MV's from Sistar that is open about the feelings of a lesbian couple caught in a bad cycle, that take their anger and hurt too far.

3. As well as MonstaX's All In. That seemed to portray the story of dying and fighting for a love that seems forbidden.

4. However, the latest addition to Starships exposure of LGBTQ is the new MV from MadClown titled Love Is Like A Dog From Hell. While some comments have criticized Starship as trying to capitalize on the LGBTQ community, you have to realize that they have given exposure where no one else might have.

MadClowns' MV starts out very much like a typical depiction of society. Doing and living the way it is expected of us, even when we are unhappy. Even in rare moments of happiness you can see loneliness and sadness cover the main character like a mask wearing him down. It's like he is hoping for someone to see him for who he is and accept him. Regardless of what we go through, we want someone who will stand by us, give a comforting shoulder and not care how we look, or about the color of our skin or sexual preference. In the end, you can see they both walk into the ocean (which is very closely related to an act of suicide) and we learn once again that sometimes society is cruel and that its through the biggest of sacrifices that we get to be immortalized,  that someone else who is going through our own struggles get to live on; that we get to be heard

What I like about this is that, even though Korea is super conservative, they deal with LGBT issues way better than mainstream Western pop. In the West, whenever I watch a music video with an LGBT element, it's always either a lesbian fetish scene to please straight men or something to shock/make people laugh. Starship though, whenever they add an LGBT element, it's always beautifully done and it feels very natural.

Thank you for this post, OP - I thought it was well done.  I agree with the other users who stated when K-music, and especially Starship, broach LGBTQ issues it is done in a relatively subtle and natural way.

I've noticed this, and its appreciated that a company is putting some effort into bringing a sensitive topic for many in Korea to light.

True. That's why i admire this company because they care about the criticism about their actions regardless about LGBT community.

I am also a LGBT supporter. Don't hate me please.
