Personally i hope he goes to jay/dok2 because jay himself has done the super dark thing before with "Ain't no party like an aomg party" and "Put em up" (those creepy dancers in the back of those mv's always make me cringe)

After all he picked Fxxxboy beat which was jay's beat

I can imagine him doing well on a beat like "Who You" from last season.. maybe gray will help jay with some beats like in season 4

i can also imagine him doing well on something like "Air DotheQ"

Wonjae on "Who You" would be a disaster.

 

Have only seen until halfway through Ep 3 (until Ignito vs. Wonjae) but here are some thoughts I've come across while watching so far

 

 

 

 

-On Wonjae: Not surprising so much talk about this season has revolved around this kid, he's been the most exciting new voice to come from a show that notoriously spent much of its last season on familiar faces. I do think the Ignito comparisons are unfair to Wonjae and maybe even seemed to bother him (?), Wonjae hasn't talked much but when he does talk about his work he always emphasizes its more personal nature (references to old friends, medicine, etc...) whereas Ignito is somewhat of a caricature, he's Halloween the rapper. I'm sure as he's gotten older he's leaned in more towards general perceptions of him and I'm not totally familiar with his older work so I don't want to fully dismiss him but the only thing he (or anyone else) ever says about his work is that it's dark and there doesn't seem to be much else to it, his performances so far have been your typical pretty good rap verse  with words like "spiderwebs" thrown in, spooky.  Also should not be understated how good Wonjae has been at picking his beats. 

 

-On Nucksal: I've been hearing about this guy for kind of a while and to be honest never gave him much of a shot for two reasons in particular 

1) The main compliment I see him get is how good his lyrics are and as someone who doesn't speak Korean that means very little to me, even with translations the best parts of lyrical rapper will be fully lost on me, even if someone were to explain to me every punchline, every reference, it would be boring. If you're explaining you're losing. 

 

2) His verse on Chungha's song is awful and really puts a stain on an otherwise great track, will never forgive him for that 

 

So far he's been decent on SMTM, he's technically a good rapper but they don't always make for the most exciting watch and to be fair he doesn't really need this. That being said this made me check out The God of Small Things and it is phenomenal, more than any other trendy rapper right now he knows how to use the full potential of the album format. There's some features from rappers I regularly don't like (i.e Don Mills) that work perfectly because they're used to enhance the track and not to throw in a trendy name into the credits. 

The issue with people rapping over his beat is silly and frankly found him rapping over his own beat to be even lamer. 

 

-On 1st generation rappers: This has so far been an absolute embarrassment for 1st generation rappers and shows how poorly a lot of that music has aged, the best one so far has been Maniac and even then he succeeds because he was able to adequately jump on something more current. 

 

-On Truedy: I've always wondered why more Unpretty Rapstar contestants haven't tried out for SMTM after doing UR, now I wonder why of all the people to do it it had to be Truedy. Also, is Kasper there? 

 

-On Punchnello: Punchnello is someone I'm definitely rooting for and he can hold his own in rapping. Worried as to what the producers will do for him though, one of my favorite aspects of his music is his production, particularly his Lime project. His latest release "Detox" however is exactly the kind of derivative work I want him to avoid and I'm fearful he'll go into that sound through SMTM and keep it for good as it comes to represent him. 

 

-I'm not as sold on Junoflo as everyone else seems to be, I definitely thought it was a shame that he wasn't able to go further last season as he has potential but I'm not quite there yet. 

 

-Killagramz is a personal favorite, like Junoflo I don't think he's quite shown what he's truly capable of and am hoping he gets a shot at showing it off this season. 

 

-Out of all the Rhythm Power guys Geegoin is the only I really care for and he didn't make it past the first round so I've lost most interest in that area.

they uploaded heesun's battle. wow i didnt expect her against hangzoo. it's too bad about the lyrical mistake, would've loved to seen her stage presence more. i wish this was subbed but i think i get the gist that hangzoo was nervous about the battle because he also thinks she's really good(?) cute how he would call her heesun noona XD

So true lol, this season has been so unpredictable already, it's hard to tell who'll come out on top

 

Junoflo and Nucksal have the most hype but anything can happen, it's all about how they do on stage

p101 ended June 16 and this season started airing June 30 so im pretty sure they didnt even collide

Well that's because we haven't gotten to the point in the show where songs are released, I think the episode that airs in some hours will have the first batch (the team tracks), after that you might start seeing some of those tracks end up on melon.

This season of SMTM has had record ratings & has had a lot of hype in Korea because it has the "final bosses"(the best of the best) as producer line up. It's just that I guess kpop has always had more hype than khiphop internationally so obviously you'll see a lot more about PD101. And the teams haven't been formed yet, no new songs have been made which is why nothing is charting on melon yet.

I think you're probably right, I completely forgot about the cypher battle. Then it'll most likely be next week
