Working Holiday Abroad?

Hi,

I'm looking for information online about doing a working holiday and I'm just wondering if any of you on here have any information or have done one before.

Ideally I'm looking to travel to USA - Los Angeles or New York. From Great Britain.

I'd like to go for 1-2 months, its my first time so I don't want to go for too long so closer to 1 month would be better.

I'm looking for a working holiday such as working as a life guard or working in a gym, or working as a receptionist maybe. Other than this I'd like to either work in the fashion industry like in a shop or something but I'm guessing that would be a lot harder but I'd be willing to do it as an intern, but otherwise I'd want a paid job whilst I was there.

Also I'm no longer a student as I know some of them require you to be one, I've got a degree though.

I've done some research online and I've found nothing just yet that I want to do, I'm prepared to spend money on this holiday but I need to make it back by working.

I'm really nervous as I've never traveled on my own, but I feel I should do it because I'm getting nowhere trying to get friends to go away with me.

Also I'm interested in performing arts so singing / dancing for me. I'd love to be able to go over and do something with that for a short time so anything anyone knows would be great.

Also before any of you say, I've used google and I'm finding different things, I'm just looking for more options.

Thanks

I lived in NYC for 3 months in 2011 on a J1 visa just after I graduated from my BA, it was really fun but I had so much trouble trying to find a job and I was just looking for mediocre retail/admin stuff to help me get by so honestly you can't really be choosy unless you have it VERY planned out in advance (like, you have a job for sure secured before you travel, which could take a lot of time in itself)

all I can say is if you go somewhere and don't want to be stuck doing something generic choose a less popular city I guess lol

I'm also not sure how the US allocates working visas to UK citizens that aren't students (I'm an Irish citizen so I only know the stuff that applies to my country) so depending on how long it's been since you were a student I'm not sure if they'd give you a working visa just for a few months unless you're a recent (within a year) graduate

All I could suggest is maybe looking into working on a cruise ship. You get to see different ports of call and depending which line you choose you can base out of the US. I can't tell you all of the logistics because I am neither from the USA or UK, but there are usually VISAs specific to it.
