China ready to neutralise THAAD, retired PLA general says

The military will deploy its own system before Seoul sets up the American one, Wang Hongguang says

China knew it might not be able to stop Seoul deploying a US anti-missile system and was prepared to counter with its own anti-radar equipment, a retired PLA general said on Monday.

The comments by Wang Hongguang came as a South Korean court’s decision to uphold the impeachment of Park Geun-hye, the country’s former president, fanned hopes Seoul might put plans for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence system on hold.

Park supported the installation of the system to help protect South Korea against threats from North Korea, which Beijing says can peer through China’s defences.

Wang, former deputy commander of the Nanjing Military Region, said China could not take the chance the next South Korean president would change policy and roll back the deployment.

The first THAAD components arrived at the Osan Air Base in South Korea last week.

Wang said Beijing had measures in place to neutralise THAAD’s radars. “We will complete our deployment before THAAD begins operations. There is no need to wait for two months [before the election of the next South Korean president],†he said on the sidelines of the political sessions in Beijing. “We already have such equipment in place. We just have to move it to the right spot.â€

Yue Gang, a military commentator and former People’s Liberation Army colonel, said China could either destroy THAAD or neutralise it.

“Destroying [THAAD] should only be an option during wartime,†Yue said.

But China could interfere with the system’s functions through electromagnetic technology, he said.

Yue said an ideal place to install the Chinese equipment was on the Shandong peninsula on the country’s east coast, opposite South Korea.

Fu Qianshao, an aviation equipment expert with the PLA Air Force, said China could also send planes – manned or unmanned – to fly close to THAAD to interfere with its radar signals. All the country’s armed forces had the capacity to interfere with radar signals, Fu said.

Wang said China’s chief concern was not just with South Korea’s deployment of the American system but also the United States’ broader potential to contain the region in a sophisticated web of missile defence systems in Japan, Singapore, the Philippines and even Taiwan.

The THAAD system consists of a sophisticated radar and interceptor missiles designed to spot and knock out incoming ballistic missiles.

WTSF does "neutralize" mean????

I don't know why they couldn't talk this shit out without getting bombs and nukes in the middle of it all.

Having missiles so close to each other and ready to kill thousands at a moments notice isn't the healthiest for already strained diplomatic relations...

Neutralize means they're going to make THAAD useless; as the article stated above, they're going to use their own electromagnetic technology to interfere with THAAD's radar signals.

Actually, it doesn't matter. Electronics made in China are always sloppy. I don't think it will last long.

But still, China better not drag the showbiz down, i don't give a fuck if the Chairman have the rights or not. Everyone have a living to earn and you have no fucking rights to stop people from earning money.

How do you think those China people will feel if i stop them from stepping into Singapore and earn money? Same right?

Selfish leader. Once a communist, always a communist.

Ever heard the ban imposed by Korea on Japanese media?

https://onehallyu.com/topic/481213-never-realized-japanese-media-had-this-level-of-censorship-in-korea/

It is still illegal to broadcast Japanese music and television dramas over terrestrial signals in South Korea.[8]

In February 2011, the Korean censor indicated that they might consider lifting the ban in the future.[9] In August 2011, a single Japanese song was broadcast in South Korea as part of a trial program.[10][11]

In 2014, the Korean-language song "Uh-ee" by Korean band Crayon Pop was banned from broadcast by KBS because it contained the Japanese word pikapika in its lyrics.[12]

So are you implying just let China do whatever he wants uh?

And the Japan ban may be slightly modded after the new President is elected IMO

Right now it is just some kind of trade barrier. This kind of incident occurs in east Asia regularly. Don't have to hit the panic button too fast. Time will cure everything.

How old are you?

If you are someone who is mature enough to understand economy, you would understand that Korea utilize its idols to promote a good image for Korea in order for their companies to maximize their export to foreign countries, thus improving their lives.

Every single countries does it, if an industry can make money, politicians will be involved.

China is not alone, THAAD's radar spans to Russia as well. You know damn well they are not going to take this lying down.

Of course, Russia had to make predictable statements of concern but that's about it. In fact, Russian ambassador Timonin reassured his Korean audience of strengthening economic ties between the two countries while he was addressing his concerns about the THAAD deployment.

If I had something peering into a part of my house without my permission, you bet I'd do something about it too.

China has been peeping into other houses without any official notice. They have a long-range early warning radar system in Heilongjiang province, which can easily cover the entire Korean peninsula. China develops and deploys whatever they want without too much hassle.

^ True.

Frankly, people can talk about this as if it's revolving around North Korea concerns, but I personally just see North Korea as USA's cover for an ulterior motive to peer into China. Even if not, then it's a great side bonus for them, that's for sure.

Those sloppy electronics are made by just regular citizens just to earn money. China is doing it for defense so they are willing to spend millions of dollars for it. They have engineers, technicians, scientist  etc etc. in China that is directly hired by the government. I don't support China or defend any countries but this is just dumb statement.
