I Hate The Word "Irrelevant"

The Dense One

Recommended Posts

No group is irrelevant if they are on Music Shows (constantly) or if they've ever been invited to a Gayo Daejun.

All this talk about groups like VIXX, U-KISS, Wonder Girls and heck even 2NE1 being irrelevant is fucking stupid... If they are so irrelevant then why are you mentioning them?

Do you want to know who is irrelevant? Demion.

See? Have you even heard of them? One of their members was on MyDol with VIXX!

Don't ever talk about irrelevant when there are unsigned artists who would kill for the exposure that C-CLOWN or M4M has.

groups c clown and m4m are called irrelevant because they really are not relevant

See? There it is again!

If they have a modicum of success to the point where they have Music Bank and Music Core appearances, they are not irrelevant in the grand spectrum of things...

:(

Okay, I can't stay mad at you... XD

"No group is irrelevant if they are on Music Shows (constantly)"

But music shows are also irrelevant. Have you peeped the ratings lately?

A group is relevant when their name is known even to demographics that don't give a fuck about idols otherwise. Big Bang is relevant. SNSD is relevant. SISTAR is relevant. 2NE1 is relevant. Even EXO probably qualifies after last year.

However groups like VIX and anyone less successful than them are not relevant.

As K-Pop fans, we've heard of dozens of groups that have debuted over the last few years . That doesn't mean GP Basic is a relevant group.

irrelevant is yet another ONTD-esque catchphrase that everyone and their mum has latched onto and can't stop spouting, like shade and slay and stan and etc etc etc etc it's all so tedious, compose your own thoughts instead of regurgitating others, please, everyone

at least be creative in your bashing, c'mon

People call Boyfriend nugus/irrelevants

I literally LOLOL cuz there are more lesser known groups that we international fans dont even know of

These guys get me... XD

I follow varying levels of nugus.

From just busted out of nugudom/on the way out/ almost on the way out - VIXX, SPICA, AoA

To fairly well known nugus - MyName, History

To nugus who no one really knows but have seen around due to music shows or otherwise - C-Clown, Mr. Mr., GP Basic

To the ultimate nugunugus - Notice, M.I.K.

So I understand the whole bit about those who can't even get on music shows. But I also understand that on here "relevant" just translates to "known" or "popular". So if I disagree I just ignore, but overall I can understand the reference.

Nugu means "who" so calling well known groups like Boyfriend/U-Kiss nugu makes me cackle because ppl do know they exist

Just because they can perform on music shows, doesn't make them relevant.

Actually there IS competition for groups to get into music shows

Companies with big power groups are guaranteed a performance spot but those with less don't even get to perform on music shows

There was an article on it a few years ago I can't find it now

But groups are forced to greet the PD and stay long after their performance is over to guarantee them a spot next time when they comeback

Lol, so what? That still doesn't make them relevant, tbh. The whole "being an idol" thing is all about competition. And just because they beat out some other idol group(who'll probably go unnoticed for the rest of their life) to get into music shows, doesn't make them relevant.

International fans always make it sound like as if their less popular bias groups are relevant just because they pay too attention to them.. while no one gives two shits about these nugu groups in korea.

It does in one sense. Music shows can ban groups if they are not doing successful. That's what happened when Crayon Pop tried to comeback with Dancing Queen. CP's debut flopped, and music shows saw CP as irrelevant and banned them.

Well at least now they're relevant. At least more relevant than some groups who got to perform when cp was banned. lol

Relevance =/ popularity

These 2 terms mean different things but you are grouping them as the same

I dislike the way the word is used as a synonym for unpopular or unknown. Anything can be relevant under the right circumstances, e.g. groups that are too unpopular to get on music shows are relevant to a discussion about nugu groups, while TVXQ is irrelevant to me unless I need a sleep aid.

irrelevant is subjective matter, tbh. you dont call gp-basic relevant because they're in music show, but i call them irrelevant because, are they even known in large population?

oh, its also overused. lets popularize unpopular.

relevant = the groups I like, irrelevant = the groups I don't like, duhhhhhhhh

then should i say snsd, big bang, tvxq, suju , *insert other big groups i dislike* are irrelevant?

they, the groups i mentioned, are irrelevant

:har:

I personally find it funny when people call established groups like wg, tvxq, wg, sj irrelevant because it's a clear sign that that person is uneducated on anything beyond their bias. Also it's often an indicator that that person is fairly new to kpop so I shouldn't waste my time.
