Newton'sApple 2,006
I really hate how much the judges are biased toward the trainees, Yes, I get it, they are talented, but they're not Top 10 worthy and obviously not TOP6, all the trainee girls passed But not Shannon, EunJin and BoyFriend!? Seriously!? I'm so dissapointed! KPOP Star is tuning into Produce 101! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIfK_wOgPSI&t=0s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMK-l87hIeA&t=0s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grJ4yUpQ3G4&t=0s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfFTcEpWMd8&t=0s Hyerin and Ara did good! but Krisha and Minju performance was so average! EXOKingJongdae 573
I'm biased towards the trainees actually but I get your point. I really do think they are pushing the trainee girls to win (one of the three pairs) and they're going to add the other four and promote them as 6 into a girl group. The soloists are talented too, but they can still make it next week. Edit: I agree that Go Ara and Hyerim did well and Kriesha and Minju could do better but you have to consider that the first group barely had any dancing at all. Their vocals >>> Kriesha and Minju tho.
_Joo 2,335
I think the judging is pretty fair this time around though... last round the girl group trainees didn't perform well and were accordingly criticized, this time they were better. Boyfriend are my favorites this season but their song choice could have been better this round (though I think it was a really close call between them and Soomin x Sohee... hoping my cuties make it through) and I wasn't super impressed by Shannon's performance. I loved Eunjin's performance, I think she just got unlucky with her pairing (which is why I hate the 1 on 1 format :/).

What do you think! It is the typical idol fare now. In the past seasons, they did have some dancing and rapping in the show, but the focus really was always on the singing and musicality. This season, with the trainees, the focus really is on the sexy dancing. It's all about the leg stroking, the bust thrusting, the slow pelvis grinding motions, the stage humping, the leg splits, the butt stroking....you know... the usual idol group moves (mostly copied from strip tease shows and slightly modified). Of course JYP and YG are in hog heaven. You can tell that they were getting bored with the amazing singers and songwriters from the past seasons and wanted something that really better suited what they've always really been looking for when it comes to recruiting talent. They actually seem to not know what to do with extremely talented singers who don't primarily compete by doing sexy dances. ( I mean, look at Katie Kim, the winner of Season 4. She was supposed to debut at YG with an album within 1 year following the end of Season 4. It's already been close to 2 years and nobody even knows where she is and she hasn't released even one song following the end of Season 4.) That said, the trainees this season are really good at what they do and are all quite attractive girls. It just seems like the show screwed up by trying to blend two wildly different formats and types of talent competitions into the same show this season. They should actually have two different winner categories -- one for the non-trainees and one for the trainees.

I loved Eunjin's performance, I think she just got unlucky with her pairing (which is why I hate the 1 on 1 format :/). Yes, I've always hated the 1-on-1 "battle" format. Logically, it always has the potential of putting the two best teams against each other and forcing one of them into "loser" status, while also potentially putting the two weakest teams together and giving one of them a "win" that really wasn't deserved when compared to all of the performances. Unfortunately, that's actually how it has worked out several times.

Omijacha 2,335
Somewhat related comment: I'm noticing that the winners from the past two seasons (Season 4 and Season 5) seem to have disappeared completely down the memory hole. Soo Jeong (last year's winner) has not even been mentioned once during this season and did not even make the usual token appearance in the audience at the beginning of the Season (or if she did, it was so brief that I missed it completely). Katie Kim has been mentioned a couple of times and IIRC did make a token appearance at the beginning of the season. But there's absolutely no news about either of them. I can understand if they've got some other things going on (school, personal life, family life) that may make it necessary to delay their debuts, but you'd think that the show producers, just as a courtesy to viewers and as a matter of professionalism, would provide some reasonable amount of news or updates -- maybe even show a 30-second "what are they doing now" type video for them sometime during the season. It just seems like the companies and show producers have just decided: "Hey, fXXk it! This is the last season. Who cares about the viewers or the past season winners anymore. We've got lots of attractive girls in hot pants rockin' the stage this year. That's all we need. Just a few more weeks to go and it's all over anyway." JiyeonFati 3,081
Eunjin is a trainee too (they just added her in main vocalist group), and Shannon can be seen as a trainee with high solo potential. Now the comparaison is unfair, it's always easier for group to fill the stage than solo artists. They can add dance move and support each other, when the solo need to fill the stage singing all the song. The judge are really harsh with their comments on vocal artists, since they can see every little thing. With groups, the flaw can be more easily hidden with good choices and coordinations. It's what make Ara/Hyerim a winning strike team. A soloist should be extremely good to beat a good team. It's why I consider Eunjin, Shannon and the 2 others as semi-finalists now, it's not a top 8, but two top 4.
