Real life got real busy so I failed to vote for chibal and my other bets at least on Maboy recently but I'll be doing it more.

 

I actually disagree with the comments saying this season is less interesting because the boys are less driven. People need to understand that people sent last season were mostly at the brink of debuting while for this season, you have plenty of either a) people with a year or less of training or b) people with previous experience in showbusiness but failed to gain success with the previous attempt. It's not that they don't want to ace it, but the demographic is just entirely different. 

 

Really think chibal is one of the trainees who is getting good exposure and to be honest, I'm really thankful for that. I really hope he reaches at least the five concept stage. So far I'm really liking the image he's showing on the show.

Hello everyone! 

 

After some ghosting, I decided to finally maybe join in on the fun.

I knew about Sungwoo through his tiptoe gifs, didn't expect him to actually be the oldest trainee but I embrace it nonetheless! Age doesn't really bother me in regards to stan material anymore.

 

His pre-episode videos were the cutest ever, he has a nice voice and an overall gentle demeanour that I find very endearing 

This is my honest opinion, but I'm not sure if he will be able to join the final 11, I'd honestly be very happy if he reached top 22, just so that we can see more of him and that he can have more opportunities in entertainment next time by increasing his public recognition.  I'm glad Mnet gives him a lot of screentime at least. Him cringing while reacting to his own level test was gold for me.

 

In Sungwoo's case, I think his kfanbase is quite solid. One of the kfan tweets I skimmed through on this thread mentioned that when Sungwoo performed Be Mine, a lot of the girls were shouting 'oppa' for him lol (I'm still in the learning phase so my translation may be way off, please be warned oTL). Some fan accounts mentioned that he was not a 'hole' in the team and that he danced on beat appropriately and was cool/sexy. This makes me look forward to the performance so so so much more (irrelevant but one of my other picks, Kenta, is also in his team, I believe).

 

More than anything, I'd love to see his skills improving through each mission (and also any potential ultimate hyung moments with the other participants).

I can read, but I can't understand. Which is getting to be pretty annoying. Heh. Now that my reading has hit the level it has though, I really need to start working on vocabulary and the like. It's the logical next step. 

 

Plus waiting for subs is the worst. Though I imagine I'm going to require them for a very, very long time yet.  (Maybe I should find a kids cartoon and see if I can work on that at some point. BUT THAT'S COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC MY BAD.)

I was wondering, would it be okay to exchange our top favorites? That way we can see who all we joint-stan outside of Sungwoo? I know a lot of my faves are moderately popular, but not really people you'll see talked about in the main thread that often outside of a few of them.

 

Plus I just find y'all a lot less intimidating to converse with than I do main thread people.

Sungwoo is my only favourite but I like Jisung and Sihyun as well

I barely go onto the main thread because there never seems to be much about Sungwoo

I appreciate that they're active and that if there's updates, it'll probably be mentioned on the main thread first. So it's an easy way to keep a finger on the pulse of the whole show. Gosh yes, I hope his k-fans keep supporting them as nicely as they have so far! 

 

 

That's understandable. I've considered putting some of them on ignore, but I've realized that they don't really bother me that much. At the end of the day I guess I'm glad they have something they're this passionate about? Even if it's not something I can really understand or agree with. I could see me having issues as the competition continues though, but I'm not going to count on my experience souring until it actually does. No need to borrow trouble, right?

I agree with you on all of those points.

 

I mean I casually am appreciating Seongwoo as I think he is a funny guy and a good dancer, but I don't see all that in his visuals like everyone else does either. I think he has a good chance of getting in being the Fantagio kid to pick up the torch of Yoojung and Doyeon, but we will have to see.

 

Moonbok... he is a cool guy, but yeah he just doesn't seem like the type to be in an idol group, or like it really would suit what he wants out of life. I also don't enjoy his rapping style/tone. But he is here, and we will see how far his hyung/general support will get him.

 

Haknyeon when he isn't trying to act cute I can see the appeal, but cute visuals in general don't get to me very often. And Bae Jinyoung is like a cute, angry child so...

Then Daehwi is a cute kid... but again cute isn't my taste. He seems talented though, and he is friends with Somi so I won't be mad if/when he makes the group but I just wouldn't personally vote for him.

 

But really all of these kind of competitions and even each group really brings out the fact that everyone has different taste. Otherwise every member of a group wouldn't have stans, so it works out.

 

And it is nice to be able to express these kind of opinions without the protection squad coming out, lol

 

 

 

I think something nice that I see around this thread is kind of the acknowledgement that Sungwoo doesn't have all the skills as of right now. I think it's a good mindset to be able to see the good and the "room for improvement" in a bias.  I mean I might get defensive if people said he was completely terrible, because he's not the worst, but he has a lot of room to grow, and I hope we do get to see him grow plenty. Even he doesn't become the most talented at any one thing by the end of this (besides being beautiful, he's already got that on lock  )

Completely agree about the Cube boys especially Guan Lin. I don't think he's ready for this competition just by looking at his skills both in performance and language and also his mentality

Moonbok - I don't think he is idol material but he seems like a genuinely nice person and I think it's really awesome for him to come out again after what he's been through

Jihoon, Haknyeon and Jinyoung - I can see why people might find them attractive but they are just not my taste. To be honest I find them a bit boring

Samuel - I think his skills are great and he definitely deserves to be there. I find him a bit scary though, his facial expressions make him look mad all the time

I'm 99.9% sure I saw those gifs around the time Hyeongseop's pick me vid was released... It was probably from the teaser of that. There were a few other gifs of Sungwoo that weren't on the episodes but were on the teasers... I think. at least I dont remember seeing them on the episodes myself, like this one

You also have to remember people can vote for 11 trainees, so it's highly likely that instead of Chibal losing votes, most of his fans have also been voting for other trainees. If that trainee is just a couple of ranks lower than Chibal, he's bound to overtake him.

 

Also Chibal is SO MUCH BETTER OFF than other guys who dropped - a lot of the boys dropped out of 11 altogether as the MMO boys are starting to penetrate Top 11. Not one NuEst kid is left in Top 11 (there used to be 2!) and people like Euiwoong & Moonbok dropped big time. I am thinking it's not that someone like Jang Moonbok is losing votes - his fans are just voting for other boys as well. I feel his support is similar to Chibal in the sense that once they have to choose one, they'll pick Moonbok. There are also heaps of bloc voting for the 'popular clique' right now (you know who they are  ) especially in the K-fandom so I foresee a major shakeup once voting resets and voters can only pick one to support. Trainees who get the casual voters will drop big time. Also Yoon Jisung really rose because he shined in yesterday's performance. I know Kang Daniel is a favorite, but I've been really liking Jisung lately and I find him more well-rounded than Daniel (which is ironic because it was Daniel who talked about how idols need to be good in everything lmao)

 

These are the only things giving me hope right now. I really hope it's true that Sungwoo has loyal fans that will stick with him to the end, the contestants with a lot of casual fans will probably drop. I heard voting resets in ep5 is that true? And when does the 1 vote thing start? Ahhhhhh I'm so nervous about voting resetting

What do you mean by block votes? Is that the 'vote for my trainee and I'll vote for yours' thing? And this is probably going to sound mean but I'm relieved seeing popular kids like Nuest, Euiwoong and Moonbok going down, makes me feel like Sungwoo isn't the only high ranking one dropping

If there was someone who really dropped - it was Kwon Hyunbin. Really sad, his edit last week didn't help. Especially as viewers this season seem to be more easily swayed by edits lmao! Last season everyone was pretty much rebelling against the edits but it seems current fans react EXACTLY how MNet wants them to, so I guess that changes how the season will pan out this time around. I imagine someone with a Lee Haein type of personality might struggle if the audience reactions keep being like this.

 

Bloc voting is when a fan also votes for the friends/people around a certain trainee. This could also mean the exact opposite = haters voting a group of people to pull down trainees they don't like. Won't be surprised if Moonbok had antis doing this. Just an observation but I'm definitely seeing more cliques among the trainees this season compared to last year.

I'm liking this season better because the ranking is so messy, it shuffles so hard weekly lol makes the show more exciting and entertaining. Last season was too predictable. I love how the shakeups are happening early this season, again, this probably has to do with how the audience seems more easy to bend in terms of reactions compared to last year. For example: Hyunbin cries, rank drops. 

 

Even Chanmi who got such a terrible edit didn't drop that fast lol. I bet if Hyunbin gets a redemption arc, he's gonna bounce back as well. A lot of the trainees also seem like novelties (ex, Chibal when he did the tiptoe) so it's a matter of sticking to people and not being the 'flavor of the week'. The game this season is much more rapidfire and intense! 

 

If you have time, try marathoning the first season. It would probably make you realize there are a lot more things to worry about other than low votes (ex, ending up in a terrible group for the missions)

It is entertaining but nerve wracking as well, I swear I almost had a mental breakdown when I saw his ranking this week, not because 17 is bad but because I can't imagine how much he'll drop once voting resets. Anyway, I just hope Mnet doesn't give up on him in terms of screen time 

 

I don't normally watch these type of shows, I'm only watching this because of Sungwoo. He totally snatched me in the tip toe video, that's how hard I fell

I think people really miss out a lot of the enjoyment in the show when the main goal only becomes to get their faves in. A lot of people stanning the show last season were talking about not supporting IOI because their faves failed to make it in the group. The reality is, someone who gets into Top11 and someone who gets eliminated by ep 10 won't have that much difference in terms of popularity & screentime.

 

My current goal for Chibal is to at least survive till the Five Concepts stage, but by that point so many things would have changed (except my love for him lol) Let's first see how his journey unfolds in the show and if he manages to redeem himself next week. Most people have his terribad audition ingrained in their memories, he needs to reverse that if he wants to accumulate support, that's just how the game is.

 

 

 

 

Based from last season the more interesting storylines happen in ep 4 (Kahi getting dismayed with the Ah! performances inciting fear into Jang Geunseuk, Sohye-Sejeong mentorship, Lee Haein being a dictator jk, trainees dropping out of the show so some groups lost members, that super risky but sexy move Hwang Sooyeon did during Hot Issue)

Yeah I think because Sungwoo is the only reason I'm watching the show in the first place, my goal is definetly for him to be in top 11

 

As for people not supporting IOI because their faves didn't get in, that does kind of make sense though. I mean, if their faves didn't get in, to them, IOI would just be another Kpop group

I tend to have multiple favorites and an ultimate bias. For many people last season, it was the same thing, and most people sourgraping still had people they liked who got into IOI but were mainly bitter because Sohye made it instead of [insert their fave]. I think I can support the group even if my UB fails to get in, but of course I won't stan stan (I loved Kim Sohee last season  ).

 

If you watch the show and just enjoy the ride, you'll gain about two new faves every episode. That's how it works. It's impossible to have disliked all 11 people who get into the final group, there would be at least some of them who will have endeared themselves to you by ep 11 lol.

 

But it's interesting to see if oppa will manage to shift people's impression of him next episode. It seems MNet is really giving screentime to his ~waves~ lol

I have 1 ultimate bias (Sungwoo) and 2 favourites (Jeong Sihyun, Yoon Jisung) I've liked Sungwoo and Sihyun since before the show started and Jisung after watching the show

I don't stan easily if that makes sense like I very rarely have biases or groups I follow. Before Sungwoo, I hadn't stanned or even liked anyone to the point of keeping up or actively supporting them since around 2013 so I definitely won't be following the final 11 if neither Sungwoo, Sihyun or Jisung make it

But I'm just going to enjoy the show now and hope for the best!

So how're we feeling about Sungwoo's performance in that Be Mine vid there? ^

 

Personally I'm going to say it feels like an improvement, but that we've got a long way to go yet. I think part of it's he's just not used to being on stage yet? Because the second half is even an improvement on the first half as far as I can see. He seems slightly loooser and maybe a little more emotive in the face if that makes sense? Actually, this might seem really weird? But on occasion he actually reminded me a little of Ren/Minki at times? I'm not sure if I can put my finger on why exactly, maybe it's just an expression thing?

 

Also yup, that stage outfit is just as good in reality as it was in fanart. Great outfit. 

 

Edit: Anyone interested in exchanging SNS of some sort? In case OH does this again I mean. I don't use twitter hardly, but if it came down to it I could. Plus I've got KKT, discord, and all that other stuff too.

He still looks a bit awkward but he's definitely improving!!! I wasn't expecting him to be great, tbh I would be more surprised if he was really good since this must be all very new to him and it's his first performance. I loved the outfit

Also think we should be one of the nicest bunches here in OH. While we are Chibal supporters, it is refreshing how none of us are oppalogists of some sort even when it comes to him. ^^ we all know he needs to improve if he wants to go far and we dont make excuses for him. 

 

Anyway I know a lot of people are worried their faves wont make the final group but like I mentioned in a previous post, I am more worried that 1) with all the clashing and domineering personas this season, chemistry is hard to come by and 2) boys ready to debut with their own company getting in the final team lineup. I just cant fathom an IOI sub unit era situation all over again. I want the final 11 guys to be 200% committed. As much as I love Chibal, I dont feel he had that much potential chemistry with the Top 1-15 guys of the show right now so I aint that worked up if he doesnt make the final group, but relationships can develop as the show progresses.

 

I just watched his eye contact and he def improved! His video even made it to the top 40 vids in Naver last night (he was playing in the 10s to 40s) so I am sure its def ifans who are sleeping on him. A Korean website recently (april 21) did a survey on fans on who will they choose once the onepick rules get applied and Sungwoo was in the Top 5. Hr needs to hold on there till Top 35 but with all the rising boys its gonna be hard since his fans seem to be voting for other boys for now too. Also intl fans totally sleeping on Lee Yoojin. It is strange because intl fans can get so defensive with the Lee Daehwi situation making excuses. I dont hate the kid but the wording of his statement and the way he said it kinda made it more different from the other guys just talking about the F trainees being weak. Dont agree with a witch hunt but him getting criticism isnt unfounded. He kinda lacked tact in a lot of things he did and as an Asian myself, totally saw why he drew all this bashing. It is certainly exaggerated but there was basis on why people got turned off. But this also made me wish that even if he fails to debut in the Top 11, I hope Chibal never gets evil edited in a Daehwi light. That kind of thing will follow you even after the show, netizens will never let that stuff die down. After seeing what an episode can do to Daehwi even before halfway thru the show (who is in A, a center, and a fan favorite) it kinda made me realize no one is truly safe this season. I just want chibal to come out unscathed, he will surely get an acting opportunity since he has name recall now 

 

Anyway some criticism: Sungwoo really needs to work on his presence.  He kinda got eaten up alive presence wise by his team members and he needs to really improve that if he wants to survive this show. 

Yeah I think he's not dancing hard enough? He seems to hold back on his moves like he should let go a bit

I never thought Daehwi was that type of person so his comment shocked me. I think Sungwoo is too soft for Mnet to even try with the evil edit but it is Mnet so....

With the domineering personality, I got that strongly from the way the A ranks reacted when the other ranks got moved to A....they were so cold

I was so happy when I saw the one pick survey  hopefully he makes it until then. I had a rough look at the contestants below #35, I don't want to say too early but unless some nugu rises out of nowhere I think he should be ok until then
