Everyone (epsecially the popular ones) is bound to get haters sooner or later, but one thing I like about oppa's fans is that they embrace his faults/weaknesses too like being in F rank or that he can's sing/dance well, or even his age. Even his fansites/K-stans make jokes like sending knee/joint pills and medicines as fan gifts

This is why it confuses me when people leave him out of who the popular trainees are on the main thread. He was 12th in the first vote, 13th on maboy, and just generally has solidly consistent positions. But no one there really seems to factor him into anything?

I think he's just not as popular on here which is why I don't go onto the main thread. As long as Koreans vote for him I'm happy. I don't mind if he's not popular on here anymore because we can't vote anyway xD

It's because a lot of people in the 1OH1 thread are teenagers - which is the main demographic of K-Pop internationally. Most haven't been into K-Pop for more than 3 years too, and you could even see their choices in P101 really, really shows that. 

 

1OH1 in general has a pretty hit/miss prediction rate for P101 except for the obvious candidates, based from what happened last season (a lot of the thread faves like Chanmi, PSY, Chaekyung etc got eliminated lol).

 

A lot of them are also unaware of happenings in Korean SNS except for their faves. The thing is P101 is geared to the Korean general public and the audience aren't mainly teenagers which is why there is a lot of shakeup if you compare the lists and faves. One thing holds true whenever though - visuals speak moreso than talent, especially in a show like this. Expect the really good-looking trainees to rise effortlessly even without screentime. 

 

The thing is Sungwoo is really getting the young adult market. Look at international K-Pop sites more frequented by K-Pop old timers like Asianjunkie (where commenters have obviously gotten over having to defend their faves) - he's one of the faves there. I feel a lot of his audience in SK are also in that age bracket - those who will vote and buy his merchandise, but not necessarily follow him around to take photos 24/7 since this demographic would most likely hold a day job lmao.

 

His eventual success in the show will really lie on 1) his interactions with other trainees who are much younger than him. Like I said, a maknae hyung image could even propel him to Top 5. 2) will he improve or surprise people in the stages.

 

I just hope he doesn't get eliminated until the Five Concepts Stage is done :(

since you brought it up, what was season 1 like in terms of predictions? i didnt watch pd101 and i wasnt on OH back then either. were who people predicted in the top 11 accurate from the beginning? and was the first top 11 ranking pretty much the end result? and whats the five concept stage :O

Concept evaluation is when the show brings in 5 producers to write a song of various genres. So 5 songs to be produced and the trainees will be part of either of these groups. Each song will have a member limit so drama ensues for the popular songs that gets filled and has to kick out people LOL. 

 

So after groupings are finalized, they would rehearse the performance, but before that performance can be presented the announcement of eliminations happen so many groups will lose members and reshuffling needs to happen again.

 

I just hope he doesn't get eliminated at this point since this is my fave stage and the songs are dope.

Also, another thing, for the first elimination, is it decided only by fan votes? so the group of contestants with the lowest votes will be eliminated in ep 5? if thats right, does it keep going on like that for the rest of the show? always the group of contestants with the least amount of votes being eliminated?

 

 

I... was trying really hard not to play the age card. It felt a little unfair and I dislike really working with my ajumma angle. (Though good lord does OH make me feel old since I'm 31. SO OLD FEELING. SUNGWOO I SYMPATHIZE BAE)

Brb checking out Asianjunkie. As someone who's been around kpop since 09 or so. The new fans aren't bad, but... it's nice to be around people who understand the history of things sometimes.

 

Though honestly about the age thing, you don't seem wrong. I saw someone say something like 'I'm glad X is older than me, because I wouldn't want to be attracted to someone younger than me' and I just kinda chuckled and kept scrolling. Though I suppose it helps that I'm asexual so my interest in sex is literally a -10000 for 94% of the year? Not that it stops me from finding people attractive. Is it common for people to think thoughts like that about people they find attractive and is that why they don't like finding people younger than them attractive? Because it's easy for me to admit when younger people are attractive, it doesn't mean anything other than 'Hey, this person is someone I think is aesthetically pleasing'. Is that not the common way that works??

I really hope his amount of screen time stays the same for future episodes because honestly he had wayyyyyy more screen time i expected like seriously, they were really good to him. they showed his full performance and lots of shots of him throughout the show. sitting next to samuel probably helped a bit but there was actually a lot of parts with him without samuel and also full shots of his face too

All eliminations are 100% decided by fan votes (which is why some ppl are pissed they cant vote for their fav here & also why some ppl were so salty in season 1 lol)

Fan votes are through online site or if you go to their mission stages (position/group/last ep challenges) fans can vote via text or something.

 

The only thing thats changed is that international fans cant vote like last season. Only those with a registered korean phone number can.

 

There are 4 eliminations

Ep 5 : 101 ppl--> 61 (40 go home we already know of 3 who left the show)

Ep 8 : 61 ppl --> 35 (26 go home)

Ep 10 : 35 ppl--> 22 (13 go home)

Ep 11 (Final ep) : 22 ppl--> Top 11

 

Those with the lowest votes are eliminated. Its also why judges grades doesnt really matter so much because an "F" can potentially be a final member. Judges grades is more of an assessment to help trainers teach the trainees (via time given or whatever). And why screentime is a huge deal. Honestly 40 ppl cut in one go is harsh

Oh I havent read mixed accounts, but all Ive heard are the accounts circulating on OH and twitter where he had sungjongs(?) line & that the team was good. I never heard about if he was lacking or bad. In any case im excited for that mission (& seeing the backstory!)

I've seen 1 or 2 negative ones but I didn't want to worry too much about it because I don't know if it's true and there are good ones as well so I just decided to wait and see

He can be both sexy and cute, his pick me video, meringue, intro, hidden box, ep1 performance shows so many sides of him and he is freaking perfect in all

Tbh I had a lot of fun rewatching the episode and playing 'Spot the Sungwoo'. There were so many times where he'd show up just out of nowhere! It was lovely. Get that screentime scrap Chibal! Make people remember your face.

 

I feel like he'll probably do fine in the group mission. I love Jongie, but he's not exactly a strong vocal either. Which probably is a boon for Sungwoo since so far he doesn't seem to have the strongest voice either. So I think Sungwoo should do fine covering his part. I'll link a color coded in case anyone's not familiar with which part exactly is Sungjongie's so you can have a grasp of what individual part Sungwoo apparently does in their performance.
