I hope we can call Sungwoo his Korean nickname Chibal. It sounds so cute when I read it XD That tweet even calls him Chibal Oppa. It just sounds better than tiptoe haha. Sounds more endearing?

Aside from nuest and Moonbok who already have huge fanbases, and the talent bigshots Daewhi and Jihoon, I'm reaally happy oppar is well liked in Korea. altho small observation; while his likes are quite high, his views are quite low(??). Either his views-likes ratio is really high, or Sungwoo's noonas are dirty cheats who make multiple accounts  

 

Hyunbin's eyecontact became a really big meme in Korea too, combined with his visuals I think oppar's got a rival for top visual along with Minhyun  I used to think Ren is gonna be the shoo-in nuest member but recently it feels like Minhyun's visual is gonna get more attention.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just my observation, so it might be wrong

 

Sungwoo doesn't have the hype or volume of fans of other trainees plus his visual doesn't fit the conventional style expected of idols so I assume most of those who watch his stuff are people who are actually interested in him and rooting for him. I'm expecting this to be his strength (given no other trainee gains relevance or him getting evil edits/doing something unwise) when the voting rules change to one vote as his popularity seems really organic.

I actually had the complete opposite view. I thought the others had more views than likes because their fans probably watched the videos over and over again

And for those who have lots of hype, I think it's normal for even non fans to watch out of curiosity. I always watch the videos of the really popular few (wink boy, jinyoung etc) just because there's a lot of hype around them and I want to see what they're doing even though I don't stan them

 

 

Who are you stanning aside from Sungwoo tho or are you planning to just focus on him?

I think that's true as well. The thing with these shows is not to be complacent even if your bias ranks high. I just want Sungwoo in given this might be his last shot.

I don't know what the male Korean standard for beauty is nearly as much as the female, but when it's the boys voting instead of the fans, I feel like in general boys prefer taller, more manly visuals to look up to, rather than the cute visuals often toted in the main thread. So Sungwoo has a chance there.

And that fanart is too cute!

 

 

Also all the good comments by his military colleagues will surely earn Sungwoo male fans. I can see that working in his favor in terms of having male supporters, the fact that he has done his service is already an ace on his sleeve but all those former military friends cheering up on his P101 endeavour will just endear him to Korean men as this makes him really relatable.

It is only one week! I can't decide how well I want his audition to go, part of me hopes it goes bad enough it makes an impression and he can go up from there

Multiple sources I think. Some of the subbed vids are from pd101 subbing groups like yubseyo/team101 while a few are from fansites themselves. Its a little bit uncoordinated so you'll see a few duplicates for the popular ones like Jihoon and Haknyeon (but none for oppa )

 

Youtube has a pretty decent subbing feature, and its super duper easy to add subs! If you're not up for it tho maybe we can setup an oppa video channel and someone else can transcribe your translations (I volunteer!)

Also, does doing this affect my hard drive space? I was in the middle of subbing and this warning suddenly came up on my computer and said I'm almost running out of space which is weird because I still have heaps so I went to check my storage and somehow I gained like 50GB 

 

 

 

The captions you do on Youtube can end up being saved on your cache, so it's as if whatever web browser you're using is taking that much space. One thing you can do is save it first, log out of your YT account, clear your cache and continue subbing. Don't know how good that works, but that's what I used to do with my old laptop.

I realized Sungwoo has another asset - he's an 88-er so he's pretty much gonna get the female fans who are in their 20s lol. It's so uncomfortable for twentysomethings to stan someone like Lee Daehwi or Samuel lol. He's got that market down imho.

Now that I think about it tho, in the stuff released so far, unlike the popular ones who're already hanging in packs/duos, he's barely with anyone consistently (aside from Youngmin that one time, who helped him in the Be Mine performance). He honestly doesn't seem like the beagle type too. Comparing the other trainees vids Seungwoox2 feels a little bit stiff/awkward. 

 

Him attaching to Youngmin feels like the new kid in school attaching himself to the first person nice to him

The age gap will be a big hurdle for our granpa Sungwoo to overcome. You have to remember Korea operates by age and seniority. It's not like he's 1-2 years old either. He's 3 years older than the next oldest trainee. He's 15 years older than the youngest one. It seems the kiddos are intimidated since he's a super-hyung already but I get the impression Sungwoo doesn't really want to bother with that age thing (seeing as how he developed a bond with Youngmin), but is too introverted to make the first move as well. He also doesn't try to grab attention either like other beagle-like boys. He actually seems more like a 4D than a beagle to me lol.

yeah i think it's hard for him to be close to the other boys because the age gap is so much but his dongsaeng vibes are so strong though!!! like he is such a baby. the way he talks and acts makes him look so young and his new haircut just makes him look even younger. if i didnt know his age i would think hes 20 just by looking at his videos

But Chibal really deserves this. I do think he had idol aspirations given he even enrolled himself in Winners in the past. I wanna make this dream come true for him even if everybody thinks he's 12 years too late.

Agreed. I hope Chibal lasts till the Top35 in time for the voting rules change - for now that might be an obstacle for him. Once the voting switches to one vote I feel he will rise. He has the potential to be a general public fave if only MNet gives him screentime.

 

I really wish they push the `its never too late if you try' narrative for him. If he wins then he can be a great poster boy for hope, but even if he fails, he would still be able to inspire many.

 

But it is only the P101 thread that isn't big on him from what I have noticed, but people outside that thread tend to notice Chibal.

 

I am quite content with him at 13 but what worries me is the screentime allocation he might get could shake that up terribly.

The it's never too late image fits him well. I seriously hope they don't do evil editing on him, it'll be too pitiful because he seriously looks so innocent

 

 

I also feel a big reason why he isn't as loud here on OH is because of his age. I am assuming most of the demographic especially in the P101 thread are people who were born around 1995 or after. I can imagine Chibal being a little too old for their taste then lol. It's rare to see people stanning idols a decade older than them. I noticed the boys they tend to like are in the 1996-2001 range. Even the other early 90s boys don't seem to be that popular (actually NuEst, who have heaps of experience, are born in 1995-1996!) 

 

I already feel thankful that Chibal is doing better despite this obstacle. Will vote for him religiously, but if he still doesn't make the final group, I just hope he gives the show his 500% and fight the good fight. 

 

Would be really pleased though if they give him the maknae ajusshi image. Really feel it suits him lol.

Same, I see him in a few top 11s here and there in OH, so i dont think he's being ignored here completely.. at least for now. I can definitely see him making it till top 22, hopefully by then he'll have more fans.

 

 

My ultimate wish is for MNet to push the maknae ajusshi image to him. He's the oldest person in the show so he'll be the Auntie Hwang this season. I'm sure just by that alone, he'll have screentime.

 

He's even older than the two trainers in the show - Cheetah and Don Mills.

 

He's technically borderline ajusshi but he's got such a babyface! That's a selling point there.

 

Though is it only me? I can see in his eyes that he's 30 tho. There are actions he does that really tell me he's mature.
