As 86 line, the presence of an 88-er pleases me. I was honestly kind of expecting to just be here for Nu'est, but nope! Sungwoo tip toed right into my favorite spot before I'd even realized. How rude is that? Didn't even ask for permission first.

I realized Sungwoo has another asset - he's an 88-er so he's pretty much gonna get the female fans who are in their 20s lol. It's so uncomfortable for twentysomethings to stan someone like Lee Daehwi or Samuel lol. He's got that market down imho.

 

Admittedly him being '88 line is one of the biggest things that drew me to him, but I'm not exactly in my 20s anymore. ;; I imagine he probably does have a pool of older-ish fans voting for him for one reason or another. (After all, if he can make it... that means there's hope the rest of us can hit our dreams still too, right??)

 

Though tbh, age isn't a huge factor into who I'd like to see in the top 11. I'm actually pretty fond of Daehwi and he's probably someone I'd pick for my top 11. Has nothing to do with me being 86 line in this case, I just think he's good. Kid has talent.

So I leave this thread open in a tab, mostly because I like to lurk and it's an easy way to remember my place.

 

Well, mum used my computer today to check the weather and was all 'NO THAT'S NOT FAIR. HE'S ADORABLE', which was very gratifying. We've been slowly going through every produce 101 video to give the guys our own personal rank system so far (to decide our current top 11... it was her idea.) 

 

Thing is, she knows very well that Chibal is my #1 even more so than Minki. (Which I wasn't expecting, someone to take my #1 spot away from any of the nu'est members) I've slowly been infecting her with this bias too and I think he's pretty high up on her list now too. Just because he's too gosh darn endearing not to root for... plus he's entirely too damn attractive. With a face like that he'd make such a damn nice actor if you please universe. Awkwardly charming man next door love interest roles please!

Isn't Sungwoo 88 line? So that's still a good year+ that BoA has on him. (I didn't realize BoA was 86 like me, I was under the impression she was a year or two younger. Then again I'm basically like an 85 since I'm a beginning of January baby.)

I'm in my late twenties too and most of my friends who used to like K-Pop (we belonged to the DBSK era) have graduated from it, but I kept bombarding them with P101 stuff. LMAO a lot of them really like Chibal too! I don't know why but perhaps his look was more from our K-Pop era. His look is really appealing to the general public from what I take.

 

He was originally an actor anyway, but I feel he's kinda always wanted to be an idol since he did enroll himself in Winners lol.

 

I'm 31 and I've been around the kpop world since....I want to say 09? So a medium-ish length of time, though I did miss a lot of things which I'm still a little sad about. Honestly, I didn't start getting serious levels into kpop until 2015 when I discovered that I actually like boy groups. 2015 was the start of "Oh, you mean there's more to their music than just title tracks???? B-sides exist????? WOW!!!". (Got7 and Infinite have lead me down a very, very dark path. I'm very grateful. My wallet? My wallet not so much.)

 

I'm more firmly ensconced in this fandom/music type than ever before and I have a feeling that's not going to change for a very, very, very long time. I mean my mum's 51 and just as much into this music/fandom stuff as I am... if not more. (No really, she has to watch something BTS related every day before bed or she doesn't sleep as well. I'm not even kidding. She calls them her lullaby.)

 

 

So was he asking Samuel who Nu'est were and why everyone else were freaking out?

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't know anyone else and so he didn't sit by Samuel strategically, but good job sitting next to Samuel so we should get to see some good shots of you, Sungwoo.

Right? He'd make such an endearing lead no sweat. I'm 100% a sucker for that sort of character. (Nam Joo Hyuk in Bok Joo absolutely about killed me. So adorably endearing!!!)

I feel like Chibal is a good blend of looks really. He has a lot of that second gen appeal (tbh he does kinda remind me of SuJu sometimes?), but he's not entirely out of place with the newer generations either. I feel like he's flexible in that regard.

Mildly pressed that I've seen people going 'Ewww' at Sungwoo's abs, but when a certain other contestant does it, it's okay? And by 'mildly pressed' I mean I rolled my eyes and kept scrolling. Haters gonna hate, chibal is still great whether you appreciate him or not. u_u

I feel you Cheetah. That was beautiful, Park Sungwoo you showed off even better than I thought. And your voice isn't that bad, just a bit quiet, nor your dancing. We can work with this I feel like. And you definitely have my attention. I am laughing and like blushing, good job. So he's F before Pick Me and after, I am okay with that. Man I need to gif that glory.

 

My mom stopped by on her lunch break and I showed her. There was this audible little intake of breath at him just in that outfit as a whole. He showed himself off nicely. I feel like he knows what his strengths are currently and tried his best to showcase them as best as he could.

 

I'm still kinda smiley over 'He even did the whole "work out to make your muscle definition show up" thing before the performance' detail. He clearly knew what he needed to do for the stage he was trying to set. As a fan I'm content.

I don't know if it's an age thing, but I have and probably will never quite understand the concept of cringe.  It seriously just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I just don't grasp what it means yet exactly. I dunno. :/

 

Also since I know p101 shipping is a thing I'm totally down for Sungwoo and Youjin as a thing. Even if it's just one sided Youjin is really, really attracted to Sungwoo things. I keep wanting to make 'hot for hyung' jokes. I'm a bad person

I dont know when exactly this was posted but with the airing of the beautiful tragedy that is Sungwoo's audition, ignoring the actual performance aside he is now getting a lot of praises for his body/visuals in the end so.. If he gets in the final does that mean THEY WIN???  (can't believe newer model Seongwoo and popular Woojin are actually included tho)

Edit: I wish I could actually understand korean, at best all I could do is a romanization, which.... isn't very helpful in the long run. That feel when you can read hangul.....but you don't actually speak it, so you don't actually know what three-quarters of it says. Reading without understanding is SO USELESS.

I relate to him entirely too much I'm afraid. We both tend to get the 'maknae elder' thing too. So I don't know if me being older really makes me all that much... older in the grand scheme of things.

I still think doing a Rain song was a damn good choice. I'm not sure I could imagine him doing anything else.

 

I'm also completely okay with 'Sungwoo is main character' as a narrative. There are a lot of people claiming to be this years So Hye, but I can't see it being anyone else at this point in time.

This is why it confuses me when people leave him out of who the popular trainees are on the main thread. He was 12th in the first vote, 13th on maboy, and just generally has solidly consistent positions. But no one there really seems to factor him into anything?

Honestly, I'm actually really happy with the whole F thing now that I realize the trainers seemingly went into this looking at the trainees partially from a 'we can help the Fs the most, who will benefit from working with us more?' kind of thing.  Which I'm all for that.

I agree, like looking from it in that manner makes a lot of sense. Park Sungwoo has a lot of space for improvement, and F is where he can get the most help to go up from here.

I just feel a little bad for all the trainees as the trainers do grade harder this season because in the place of the trainees it's hard to think of it from that perspective.

 

Agreed. Hopefully they'll realize that's what the judges had in mind at some point. Because I know that'd be something I'd find very reassuring. The whole 'We want to be able to work with you more, so we can help you improve' thing. Then again I'm entirely too familiar with the whole 'We're hard on you, because we have expectations' thing. So I'm far too familiar with that sort of storyline, because that's the story of my life.

 

I think he's just not as popular on here which is why I don't go onto the main thread. As long as Koreans vote for him I'm happy. I don't mind if he's not popular on here anymore because we can't vote anyway xD

 

I like the general updates too, but I have noticed that he's just... not popular with the general OH population. Some things you just have to shrug or roll your eyes at, ignore, and just continue on your merry way.

 

Plus, K-fans seem to have our back so far and that's what counts ultimately. We're lucky that Chibal is a fairly likable guy who has a lot of things that'd draw k-netz to him. So I'm not stressing things just yet.

It's because a lot of people in the 1OH1 thread are teenagers - which is the main demographic of K-Pop internationally. Most haven't been into K-Pop for more than 3 years too, and you could even see their choices in P101 really, really shows that. 

 

1OH1 in general has a pretty hit/miss prediction rate for P101 except for the obvious candidates, based from what happened last season (a lot of the thread faves like Chanmi, PSY, Chaekyung etc got eliminated lol).

 

A lot of them are also unaware of happenings in Korean SNS except for their faves. The thing is P101 is geared to the Korean general public and the audience aren't mainly teenagers which is why there is a lot of shakeup if you compare the lists and faves. One thing holds true whenever though - visuals speak moreso than talent, especially in a show like this. Expect the really good-looking trainees to rise effortlessly even without screentime. 

 

The thing is Sungwoo is really getting the young adult market. Look at international K-Pop sites more frequented by K-Pop old timers like Asianjunkie (where commenters have obviously gotten over having to defend their faves) - he's one of the faves there. I feel a lot of his audience in SK are also in that age bracket - those who will vote and buy his merchandise, but not necessarily follow him around to take photos 24/7 since this demographic would most likely hold a day job lmao.

 

His eventual success in the show will really lie on 1) his interactions with other trainees who are much younger than him. Like I said, a maknae hyung image could even propel him to Top 5. 2) will he improve or surprise people in the stages.

 

I just hope he doesn't get eliminated until the Five Concepts Stage is done :(

I saw someone say something like 'I'm glad X is older than me, because I wouldn't want to be attracted to someone younger than me' and I just kinda chuckled and kept scrolling. Though I suppose it helps that I'm asexual so my interest in sex is literally a -10000 for 94% of the year? Not that it stops me from finding people attractive. Is it common for people to think thoughts like that about people they find attractive and is that why they don't like finding people younger than them attractive? Because it's easy for me to admit when younger people are attractive, it doesn't mean anything other than 'Hey, this person is someone I think is aesthetically pleasing'. Is that not the common way that works??

No big storylines for now but lots of cameos, seems like the camera keeps finding our Sungwoo and to people who wrote him off after the audition HE IS STILL RELEVANT LOL! Dropping to 13 is kinda troubling, but as they slow(like old-age slow ) and steady wins the race. Spoilered cus spoilers.

Tbh I had a lot of fun rewatching the episode and playing 'Spot the Sungwoo'. There were so many times where he'd show up just out of nowhere! It was lovely. Get that screentime scrap Chibal! Make people remember your face.

 

I feel like he'll probably do fine in the group mission. I love Jongie, but he's not exactly a strong vocal either. Which probably is a boon for Sungwoo since so far he doesn't seem to have the strongest voice either. So I think Sungwoo should do fine covering his part. I'll link a color coded in case anyone's not familiar with which part exactly is Sungjongie's so you can have a grasp of what individual part Sungwoo apparently does in their performance.

Ah, I'm so glad to see we've managed to get him to that first present! For a while there it felt like we were never going to make any progress.
