Hi guys! A new lurker here, I had trouble signing up - so it feels really nice to be able to finally post  

 

I became a fan during the "Be Mine" performance, since it's one of my all time favourite tracks. Also because he's pretty much a representative motivator for all those "lost souls" who are still striving to achieve their goals. I used to have a few favourites, but now no one else stands a chance haha.

Compared to last season I think there's quite a few So Hye's, this time in all different forms. Although SW is going through the path of SH, he's personality is a lot more calm and collected. No matter how many times he is scorned at he appears quite calm, humble and doesn't cry. Has he cried? I'm not sure haha. Mnet sure does love them crying scenes, sometimes I'm fear though MNET might not see his sincerity since he's always so composed lol. 

 

Looking at last years results, majority of the positions will go to those we already know with possibly 2-4 (if lucky) spots going to trainees from smaller companies. It seems at this point Mnet favours Jisung, since he is super expressive and seems to have variety skills.

 

Even if he doesn't make it to the top 11, it'll be amazing for him to get all the way to the final episode. Basically whatever it takes for him to get recognition, because I'm quite sure he already has the star factor to make it into the entertainment industry.

Oh btw guys, I don't know if it is only me who noticed but I've been starting to really observe Sungwoo has a tendency to be VERY socially awkward.    The more I see him, the more I realize how awkward he is. He lacks that certain ego many good-looking guys have, which I think translates to the lack of stage presence. I know the recent Woojin revelation is funny, but I do HONESTLY believe he actually calls him samcheon in real life. He probably sees Sungwoo more as a guardian figure than a hyung one. This is just what I have noticed, I actually don't feel they're friends at all lmao - for some reason it lacks that feeling, I actually feel Sungwoo's much closer to Donghyun & Youngmin, but even then still not at a friendly degree..haven't seen any guy who I can feel he really jives with except for Yoo Seonho. I think a lot of boys in camp WANT to be friends with him (ex fanaccs having the Shape of You boys talk about him, Youngmin & Donghyun calling him 'our Sungwoo hyung' comfortably), but I feel the cultural factor with age differences is just too much? I don't think a lot of boys in Korea are comfortable being friends with guys more than a decade older than them. Yoo Seonho just jives with him well because Yoo Seonho is unique like that lol, he seems not to give af with stuff rofl. Even with Yoo Seonho, I think it was because they were roommates and woke up in front of each other for a week lol. A lot of the time Sungwoo is just alone lol.

 

Peeks provided to us have shown that Sungwoo must have been close to Sihyun most: which was perfectly understandable as he was the closest to him in age and would have been more comfortable hanging out with Sungwoo than 1999-er kids. Too bad he's gone now 

 

You're right. There's alot of pictures where he gets a one shot on his own, or when he is in a group he seems a little out. He could also be incredibly self conscious of getting filmed in a reality TV situation. Sometimes I feel he might find it hard to relate to most of the guys. It's like as if you're the only mature aged student in a university course full of younger students. He is also quite introverted and a "head in the clouds" type of person, so that means less people will click with him instantly. Generally it takes a while for someone like him to be more affectionate. He kind of reminds me of a male version of Amelie (french film). 

 

In all it could very well just be a combination of: 

- his reserved introverted dreamer personality haha

- age difference (difficulty to relate to peers & adjusting to being a maknae yet being the oldest)

- the fact that he isn't idol trained previously

 

One thing is for sure he is doing his best and is respected by his peers for his attitude Hopefully in future episodes we might see him click with other contestants.

I actually think it's this lack of someone to interact with being a major factor why he's dropping ranks. Military friends accounts mention that he isn't the type to kissa*s or suck up to other people (which caused him to be taken advantage of while he was in the military), so I can imagine him not really being concerned if people liked him or not. Most of the kids in the show have prior entertainment industry experience or have been long time trainees, in that way they are even more professional than Chibal. I don't think he's 100% innocent but Chibal needs to learn to develop some greed and voice out his frustrations. He's too proper.

 

If he was associated in a clique or group of people where his personality can show, I can imagine it would REALLY help in humanizing him. He just needs to find the personalities to build a rapport with and hope those people are deemed worthy of screentime by MNet. Like you mentioned, the other boys definitely respect him but it's obvious that there is little common ground between them and I can sense a subtle "what is this hyung even doing here" vibe from the other boys in the show. It's interesting to see if he'll ever manage to fit in, I hope he doesn't get eliminated yet so we can find out.

 

I agree Let's hope he gets to stay til the end, there's a lot to see from Sung Woo.  Also sorry if I sound silly, may I ask why he is call Chibal? I don't think I've read back far enough to know the reason haha.

Also mess at MNet and Korean fans trying to make Lee Youjin and Park Sungwoo a thing.   Hyunbin's probably closer to Chibal than Youjin is.    And while Youngmin is cool and he obviously really mentored our Chibal well, Donghyun's obviously the gel that holds Be Mine team 2 together. 

 

I honestly think someone like Jisung would really click with Chibal, but even he seems closer to Youjin than Chibal is. 

 

haha funny enough Ji Sung was the first person I thought that would match well with him too. 

 

 

That's what his Korean fans call him! Chibal = Tiptoe. 

I'm gonna cry once he leaves the show so I was lowkey praying tomorrow's episode is postponed. But alas, it's not. All that's left is for him to at least last till top 35, if lucky, Top 22.

Honestly though now that I think about it, I find it hard to be really close to people who are more than 1 year younger than me so I can understand how Sungwoo feels

Omg I get that with Hyunbin too, iirc they talked to each during a bit last ep and I get the feeling Hyunbin actually likes him. I can totally see the F rank models become friends. I actually made a few gifs with them from last ep I'll see if I can find it

 

 I wonder what other contestants threads are like, here we are overseeing Chibal's compatibility with the guys haha!

 

That reminds me of the gif where they're standing next to each other during that ranking scene, I haven't seen episode 5 completely yet... oh wow, I didn't know they talked. 

 

Also since the members have cut down in numbers, does it mean members get to relocate into different rooms?

Pros of tonight's episode: 

 

- Noh Taehyun got his recognition and screen time, he truly is a great dancer and teacher.

- That brief Chibal reaction screen time during "Right Round" performance

- the contestants reaction when Chibal chooses "Shape of you"

- "Come on Baby Come on"

 

Cons: 

- Even though they aired the crowd asking for encore, MNET seriously watered down the whole "Shape of You" segment for the rest of the members' interactions ---- we got a dance comp instead with unrelated contestants :( 

- No reactions from the judges on how Chibal improved

- Song was a lot shorter than expected haha

- Chibal was back most of the time (was expected though)

 

 

Afterthoughts: With Chibal ranked at 6 I wonder how this will effect his score :( I'm glad though he wasn't ranked high since it would've caused backlash.

1. Yeah it really looked like some parts of the performance were cut, although the performance was great - I didn't feel that extra 20% to really recognise how the crowd called it an encore.

After watching this for a second time, it sure looks quite sad. If only we had that extra few minutes to see their reactions post performance. Chibal worked really hard to keep up with others, and he's just seen as an awkward obstacle. Sighs..... 

 

Man once this show is over, sungwoo is going to rise whether he's in 101 or not. Let those screencaps rolling ^^

I swear with the limited screen time we have of Chibal, I'm mostly surprised by the imagination of the fans online to create all these posts.

With the large amount of comments towards this performance, do you guys think mnet will release a full uncut version of the performance or a statement regarding the editing?

 

Possibly not. I'm sure Mnet has already a good idea of who they want in their top 11. Even though other members did not receive airtime, they've edited it to ensure Tae Hyun gets his air time (It seems though they want him to be the next Chung Ha). That's great considering they need to have straight up talented members vs all-rounders, however it comes at the expense of reducing all the screen time of all the other trainees. They probably won't release a statement considering none of the contestants are high ranking, and it's not scandalous enough to report (unless a news article comes out). [edit] They might release one on the mic issue, that's been getting news articles. 

 

With the Be mine individual video, it was about 20-30sec? more than the group version. It's a waiting game, unfortunately :( 

 

Mnet probably believes that they're able to guarantee top spots to their favourites.  Their main aim for this current mission is to find specialised members (vocal, dance, rapper). Whoever is at the top of their game of each category will get more screen time + more screen time for their already reserved favourites. Their next mission after this is finalising the "Sohye/Underdog" or the "Variety King", or someone that encompasses both traits, which we'll start to see more clearly starting next week.

Oh wow reading all those receipts...mnet is such a mess. I'm still not over the dance battle. They could have put that anywhere, why would they do it in the middle of performances?

Who do you think they would pick for Sohye? Sungwoo and Hyunbin are the only candidates so far right?

 

And what's with the mic issue about?

 

Hyunbin  - Has yet to air next week, supposedly some HB fans are mentioning that he actually sings well - in the preview you also see him crying. So Hye, although not a great singer is able to sing. He still is a running contender for So Hye's spot. 

 

Ji Sung - He's not a clear Sohye, however he does have great reaction skills and commentary. So Hye had a load of screen time for her reactions and commentary/final speeches in the previous season. 

 

Moonbok - Another underdog, Male's choice (if they are still voting) Self explanatory haha. 

 

For Sungwoo, Mnet like him enough to give him some screen time but it feels like they're using him to garner more reactions from other members. I guess this season it's figuring out who will be this years So Hye or Risa and.... whether they will actually be in the Top 11 or used as tool to gain ratings/other members screen time. 

 

Sungwoo fits almost all the traits of So Hye except his personality is a lot more timid than So Hye. Since it's been released that he's one of the members who didn't get a microphone you can barely hear him talking about his troubles.... or anything. It's harder for Chibal since he'll have to speak up (and get close to someone with a microphone) in order to get noticed. 

 

As long as SW gets in the top 35 (fingers super crossed), once one pick comes through we'll get a better idea how Koreans would rank him now that SOY performance has aired.

Quite a few girls from last season left their company, so I can see it happening to Chibal - unless his entertainment company decides to advance and build up from there. I too would like to see him advance into the acting industry, and be taught properly. From that reality pet show he appeared in, he really needs to be with a set of people who have more resources to help him. No wonder the poor soul hasn't been given the chance to debut. Strangely enough I'd like him to work with actor Ryu Jun Yeol in Cjes. Basically any decent acting company, Blossom sounds great haha. 

 

Apart from that an inkling in me wants him to be in the top 11 (if the members change up a bit), he's made it this far- why not?  Plus it feels like a heads up to all those people, who've given up their dreams to keep moving forward. He's been to the military and dealt with it (even though he was older), and he's doing it again in 101. While most might see Chibal as an obstacle, he's pretty much like those Japanese leads in animes/dramas who change the lives of who they encounter one by one - he's got the Midas touch ><

Random side note, I love that the line that Sungwoo sang in Shape of You was the one about drinking shots, because there are no worries about him not being old enough to drink. lol

 

 I got confused whether he sang the drinking shots line or the "Put van the man on the jukebox, and then we start to dance" line haha.

Blossom would make him boom higher. He already has the face for it, what we really really need is a good agency. I feel like even if HIM wanted to promote him with the PD101 hype they would not have any resources anyway. I'll look into talking with the Korean fans if we can arrange something with them if he does get eliminated. 

 

For now they are planning a subway ad event for him will share you guys the deets tomorrow.

 

What I fear for him is what if not making it far in PD101 means the end for him?

 

I feel a Top 35 spot should be good for him. At least Top 35 please.
