Why do Japanese music fans not like today's Japanese music to sound too Western?

I was reading a thread here, and I came across this comment:

Me too, I love how they stick with their roots and haven't gotten too Westernized, I think a large majority of Japanese Music Fans appreciate that, and when Singers like Kumi make Western Sounding Songs they revoltlaugh.png

An example of what was being talked about:

Posting across various sites, I can say this is true. It's one part of why LDH gets so much hate, along with KPop, which LDH is often compared to (contrary to popular belief, I'm not the only one who says this).

But why is this? A few years ago, people wouldn't had felt this way. It would've been encouraged even. Is it just the fandom growing up and moving on? It is a dislike of today's more popular Western music, which is heavily influenced by urban music and EDM? Is it because it lacks authenticity? What is it?

I listened to Kuu's upbeat album and it was trash as expected. She honestly needs new producers. Everything just sounded like stuff I try to avoid in the West.

Listen to Ame no Parade instead!

Isolationism, thinking J music is something special and sacred when it is in some ways but people need to get real sometimes. I am a huge fan of J music... it does have its unique aura but I would love more J music like YING YANG which is trop house inspired.

Personally I like western music these days moreso than a decade ago.

Oh and on LDH: I do not think their music is actually all that westernized, at least not current trends. Maybe their clothing but LDH has been churning out 2010 EDM for a while now along with classic RnB.

what about them? The majority of their music is terrible EDM too

They always copied the WEST. I mean even Maki Goto's 2nd single was a Jessica Simpson copy... But I liked it.

And I was fine with that during the golden/platinum era... because they were copying the right shit.

But now. meh.............

Personally for me, Japanese Music has always had a consistent and comforting feel, across all genres exist a unique Japanese Sound & Composition that unlike Kpop has stayed consistent for years, one of the charms of Japanese Music is it doesn't try to change and adopt different trends in quick succession, it instead sticks to a conventional sound and improves upon it.

International Japanese Music Fans have grown accustomed to that and therefore act unfavourably when an artist completely changes their style and music in order to adopt a more Western, less Japanese Sound. Like Kumi for instance, she's gone down in many peoples eyes because of the latest, try hard crap she released, and I say that as a fan.

I am however quite excited for the underground Rap Scene in Japan, it's gaining more recognition these days and there is some really authentic music being made.

Also this:

Because if they wanted music acts that are asian and mooch off of western trends, they'd follow k-pop.

Pretty Much.

& EDM is fucking atrocious, and I want to bang my head across a wall when I listen to most Western Songs that are charting these days, replicating that is a hard no.

That's the funny thing, more people seem to be receptive to Japanese hip hop than in the past, in part because it doesn't seem fake.

I adore J-Rap, especially when it's a female.

I am going to be in the minority and say that I like western influence in my Asian pop music. How close are they to the pulse of the music industry and what's hot on Vevo. The thing is with JPOP is their music stays consistent, they don't make massive style leaps like KPOP did during Hallyu years. Jpop don't change their sound or experiment, they go with what the fans want and all they want is the same beat they listened to when they debuted

Sadly it also means you won't see artists who go solo do something different.

Where would a Japanese styled song of a western genre go? I feel that I rather listen to certain Japanese electronic, trance, edm, house, glitch hop, etc songs over western songs of these genres.

Well I guess that just means that I don't mind a little western influence (and I think that it's almost impossible to not have western influences unless you are listening to traditional music) but overall, I need it to sound more Japanese than anything else.
