For people who write fanfics...

For people who write fics, do you find proofreading to be the most annoying part of writing? I just finished writing a new chapter of my fic and it's 9,714 words. I have to proofread it now and I'm dreading it unsure.png

Does proofreading annoy anyone else as much as it does me?

Proofreading is actually my favorite part because it means I'm pretty much done.

But if it's annoying then just get a beta. I still use one (a friend) just in case I missed something.

I've thought about getting a beta but I want to put out the chapter as soon as I can (I hate waiting for chapter updates so I hate making people wait for mine even more). I figure it's faster for me to just proofread it quickly instead of waiting on someone else to do it. :/ I should probably just write shorter chapters so it won't be so much of a hassle.

I usually don't proofread them lol. (probably why they're so bad)

I usually have some sort of crappy base for my fic, then go through it and add more details

Mine aren't any good either lmao

I hate people who put up fics and say "SORRY FOR ANY ERRORS, I DIDN'T PROOFREAD!!! :D :D :D <3 <3 <33333"

And then expect me to read their half-assed sht~ Don't put up sht you didn't even much finish and then give some weak ass apology for it~

This isn't directed at you, LOL, just a general rant~

Yes. Omg it's freaking terrible. Sometimes I will have multiple chapters already written since weeks ago sitting in my drafts just because I am too lazy to edit.  I will even ask my friends who write fics to edit for me, but even they are just like: unsure.png

and sometimes they will be like. You edit mine and I'll edit yours and then I'll be like:unsure.png unsure.png

I wish I had trust worthy beta readers. For some reason, I don't like the idea of strangers proof reading my materials.

I can't stand reading fics with a bunch of errors omgwtf.png That's why I try to go through and proofread mine as well as I can

I feel the same way. Even if a beta finds grammatical errors, sometimes while I'm proofreading I find things I want to change/think it will sound better a different way. I just can't get myself to use one.

kinda, i hate rereading it over and over only to post it and find a few days later that i missed some spelling errors

it sucks sometimes but thats how most of my stories get their beef, otherwise the word counts would be so low

but my chapters were never beyond 5/6k LOL

i wish u luck in editing so much

IKR like at least make an attempt~ Some people really just post any damn thing like I can't even physically tell what's going on half the time because they got words missing and spelled wrong and expect the readers to proofread for them~  wthplz.png wthplz.png

i hate proof-reading >.< i don't find it to be annoying, it just makes me uncomfortable to read my own work

however, i do look over a fic once or twice to check for spelling and grammar errors

if it's a chaptered fic, every few chapters i'll re-read everything to check for pacing and plot good-job-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862

And that means they should half-ass it and expect their readers to not complain about it???

You actually complain to fic writers? They do all that work for free, you read it for free, their time is spent for your free enjoyment and you complain about a few errors? What kind of self important entitled shit is that?

First of all, I usually don't say anything, I just stop reading it~ Second of all, I'm not talking about "a few errors", I'm talking about your story literally makes no sense. Thirdly, if the author is literally asking for feedback and admitting they didn't spellcheck, how are people wrong for telling them they have errors?

I'm not talking about mentioning errors, I'm talking about complaining and saying mean things because of them.

Stop reading it, that's a good thing^^ keep doing that.

Umm, no, that's not what I said at all~ 0u0plz.png  If the story is that bad, I'm not bothering to finish it~ If they ask for feedback and say they didn't spellcheck it beforehand, obviously I'm going to tell them~

I never get to the proofreading part bc I never finish writing the fic/end up abandoning it. It's either bc I don't know what to write for a specific part, or I'm just too lazy. I have like around 7 unfinished ones....  ohdearplz.png

I'm up to 51,000 words on this fic I'm currently writing (and it's not even close to being done) and I'm like "Girl how have you even managed this?" lmao
