Each new teaser for SBS’s legal revenge thriller Whisper peels back another layer in the relationship between detective Lee Bo-young (God’s Gift–14 Days) and judge Lee Sang-yoon (On the Way to the Airport). They’ll begin as allies and quickly become enemies when he betrays her, but in the latest teaser they’re already hinting at a turnaround for Lee Sang-yoon, who just might throw away the keys to the kingdom to save her.

The latest drama from the writer-director team behind Punch stars Lee Bo-young as a detective who wages war on the rich and powerful people who frame her father for a crime. She’s a devoted daughter whose trust in her father never wavers, and she fights the dangerous network of baddies to prove his innocence. (Yay, Action Lee Bo-young!) And Lee Sang-yoon is the one person she thinks she can trust with her father’s case, because he’s a principled judge known for doing the right thing.

But his principles waver when faced with an offer from law firm CEO Kim Gab-soo (The K2), to marry his daughter Park Se-young (Beautiful Mind) and inherit the company. That choice gets Lee Sang-yoon two new enemies: lawyer Kwon Yul (Bring It On, Ghost) who wants that spot for himself, and Lee Bo-young who thought he’d be the one person who couldn’t be bought.

The latest teaser opens with Lee Bo-young saying that Lee Sang-yoon erased the only evidence that could’ve cleared her father’s name. She then reads the news that he’s about to become Kim Gab-soo’s son-in-law and we see her break down in tears. Kwon Yul warns his new rival Lee Sang-yoon, “Your life will disappear, and it’ll be a world where principled judge Lee Dong-joon [Lee Sang-yoon’s character] misuses the law for power.â€

When Lee Sang-yoon discovers that Lee Bo-young is headed for a trap, he warns her but she goes running into the lion’s den anyway. She tells him, “You were right—we’re destroying each other.†He gets a call that she’s in danger as a horde of gangsters descends on her car, and Lee Sang-yoon races to save her. She says in voiceover, “Were you ever sorry, just once?†He thinks as he goes to her, “I promise to tell you—that I was sorry.†The teaser’s copy reads: “You were my enemy, and my only nest.†And you betrayed herrrrrrrr! *shakes fist*

Oh Snap! Lee Bo-young’s dangerous Whisper

by girlfriday | March 22, 2017 | 2 Comments

It’s only fitting that the posters for SBS’s new legal thriller Whisper would feature a secretive whisper between our leads (literal, but hot!), and the behind-the-scenes stills of the photo shoot add a fun contrast to the moody tone of the posters. The taglines read: “You were my enemy, and my nest, and my only love,†and “Her dangerous whisper that shook up my life.â€

Whisper stars Lee Bo-young, Lee Sang-yoon, Park Se-young, and Kwon Yul and premieres next Monday, March 27 on SBS.

After 'Defendant,' SBS bets big with another revenge thriller 'Whisper'

AEN20170324014700315_01_i_zpsjdumue0y.jp

SEOUL, March 24 (Yonhap) -- "Whisper," SBS TV's new crime thriller, looks and feels similar to its preceding hit show "Defendant" in many ways.

Both are in essence tales of revenge: In "Defendant," the protagonist framed for murder avenges his dead wife and clears his name, while the lead in "Whisper," a female police officer, seeks revenge on a judge who convicts her dad of murder.

What also connects the two shows is that the lead stars of the back-to-back shows are husband and wife in real life -- celebrity couple Ji Sung and Lee Bo-young.

"I'm thankful for my husband clearing up the road (for our show to glide through)," Lee told reporters during a media event for "Whisper" at the SBS headquarters in western Seoul.

When asked about pressures of following the predecessor's success, Lee shrugged "not much pressure regarding TV ratings."

Lee plays Shin Young-joo, a homicide police officer who seeks revenge on Lee Dong-joon, a corrupt judge played by Lee Sang-yoon, who wrongfully convicts her father of murderer. Throughout her quest, Shin ends up falling in love with her nemesis Lee.

Where as "Defendant" is more of a classic revenge thriller, "Whisper," along with a legal thriller element, incorporates at its core a dramatic and somewhat tragic love story between the two lead stars.

The actress said she's satisfied with her latest work: "I have faith in screenwriter Park Kyung-soo. I have waited for his work while watching all of his previous works."

Lee Bo-young and Lee Sang-yoon have previously appeared together as a couple in "My Daughter Seo-young," a hit KBS 2TV weekend series that aired in 2012.

"Our chemistry from 'My Daughter Seo-young was great. Sang-yoon is an open actor who communicates well on sharing his opinion. He's a good partner," said Lee Bo-young.

"Just from the fact that I'll be working again with Bo-young, I okay-ed it unconditionally," said Lee Sang-yoon.

The actor said he liked playing Dong-joon because of "the strong masculine trait the character exudes" and described the show as a "melodrama for adults."

Also staring Kwon Yool and Park Se-young, "Whisper" premiers Monday on SBS TV.
