~Descriptions~

Choi Jin-hyuk plays the main character, an expert violent crimes detective named Park Kwang-ho, who leaves no stone unturned when it comes to scraping for clues. He’s so meticulous and zealous that he once hung out with a thief’s hyung for a month just to locate where the thief was hiding, and it worked.

Yoon Hyun Min plays the role of Kim Sun Jae, an elite detective who rarely goes on-site. Suave and fashionably chic at first glance, he doesn’t seem like the stereotypical police investigator, but his intellect and skills are top-notch. His cold, calculating, evidence-based approach to cases is supposed to be a foil for Park Gwang Ho’s human-driven, hands-on approach. (Dramabeans)

Lee Yoo-young plays Shin Jae-yi, a U.K.-raised psychology lecturer with a Ph.D. The character wrote her thesis on serial killers who target women and is a recognized name in academic circles. Although she had no plans to teach in Korea, she is presented with the opportunity to do so and accepts, leading to her involvement in the case. (Dramabeans)

Time-slipping to catch a killer in OCN’s Tunnel

by girlfriday

It’s analogue-meets-CSI in OCN’s newest crime thriller Tunnel, where 1980s detective Choi Jin-hyuk (Pride and Prejudice) travels to the present day via wormhole tunnel and clashes with prickly elite detective Yoon Hyun-min (Beautiful Mind). On the upside, they’re both good guys who are after the same killer, the mysterious culprit in a thirty-year string of serial murders.

Choi Jin-hyuk stars in the time-slip thriller as a dogged cop who runs into a tunnel while chasing a serial killer in 1986. He has no idea why, but he comes out of the tunnel and it’s 2017. The serial killings have continued for the last thirty years, and he joins an investigation team in the present to solve the case.

Yoon Hyun-min plays his opposite in every way: Choi Jin-hyuk’s character goes with his gut instincts and street smarts, while Yoon Hyun-min’s character believes in hard scientific facts and relies on advanced technology. Rounding out the main team is Lee Yoo-young (Yourself and Yours), a criminal psychology professor with an icy demeanor who’s a little obsessed with the psychology of killers.

The show’s official posters have been released, featuring the trio in the time-slip tunnel with the tagline: “I skipped over thirty years to catch him.†Choi Jin-hyuk’s character poster reads: “Even if you’re fooled a hundred times, a detective goes again! I’ll go alone if I need to!!†Yoon Hyun-min’s says: “Don’t apologize to me. Just suffer from now on.†Lee Yoo-young’s tagline is a bit creepier: “If a killer can’t kill… is there worth in his/her existence? Or not?â€

The latest teaser also highlights how different our three leading characters are, as they pursue the same case together. Choi Jin-hyuk writes things out with pen and paper, while Yoon Hyun-min uses satellite photos to determine the distance between the crime scene and the suspect’s home.

When encountering a piece of evidence, Choi Jin-hyuk’s first instinct is to taste it (ew), while Yoon Hyun-min asks if he’s run a DNA test to get genetic [yoojeonja] evidence. Choi Jin-hyuk: “DN-what? Why are we talking about teapots [joojeonja]? Did you steal teapots too?†Pfft. Lee Yoo-young then brings it back to crime-thriller territory and asks the suspect, “When you killed… how did it feel?†Here’s hoping the show maintains that same comedy-thriller balance, because bickering old/new buddy cops could be a hoot.

Tunnel follows Voice on Saturdays and Sundays beginning March 25.

[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Official posters for Choi Jin-hyuk's comeback, "Tunnel - Drama"

Cf77BSt.jpg&key=c8a51ec8e157ba2235bdaa73

The start of "Tunnel - Drama" is only weeks away and the production team is ramping up the excitement with the release of the official posters.

The posters feature Choi Jin-hyuk as Park Gwang-ho, a police detectiv who travels forward in time from the 80s to the present day to catch a killer and save his daughter. In the present day, he meets coldly analytical detective, Kim Sun-jae (played by Yoon Hyeon-min), and a PhD in criminal psychology, Shin Jae-yi (played by Lee Yoo-young). The posters give off a suspenseful vibe, and combined with the recently released teasers, I'm cautiously optimistic about this show.

The latest teaser pits Choi Jin-hyuk's old school cop against Yoon Hyun-min's data-oriented detection skills, while Lee Yoo-young provides the psychological insights. OCN has a pretty good record with crime shows, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this motley crew work together. I'm also looking forward to seeing Choi Jin-hyuk again after his army service and subsequent hiatus; it's been too long since we last saw him on our screens in "Pride and Prejudice"

"Tunnel - Drama" will start airing on March 25, 2017 on OCN on Saturdays and Sundays.

News bites: March 4, 2017

by awcoconuts | March 4, 2017 | 1 Comment

Voice had a mid-show director swap, and now comes the news that OCN’s upcoming drama Tunnel has replaced PD Kim Kyung-chul (who was present during readings and had directed first shoots) with PD Shin Yong-hwi. Vixx’s N has also bowed out after negotiations, and I’m hoping the comeback vehicle for Choi Jin-hyuk (Pride and Prejudice) will be able to overcome its rocky start. The OCN drama about a detective in the ’80s (Choi) who time-slips to 2016 while on the hunt for a serial killer will premiere on March 25. [DongAJoongang]

Choi Jin-hyuk runs like crazy to solve a serial murder case in Tunnel

by tineybeanie |

HWZvA97.jpg

OCN’s upcoming supernatural thriller Tunnel has released two new teasers that feature Choi Jin-hyuk (Pride and Prejudice) as a hot-blooded police detective working on a homicide case in 1986. This drama is actually based on the real unsolved Hwaseong serial murder case from 1980, as many dramas and films have done before (Gap-dong, Memories of Memories, among others), but of course there’s a twist in this one: Choi Jin-hyuk is able to travel thirty years to the future via tunnel to our present 2017, where he has a shot at solving the case.

In the first teaser, the corpse of a young woman is found in the middle of a barren field, with strange markings and signs of struggle seen all over her body. Choi Jin-hyuk is one of the first policemen on site, and he lets out a frustrated sigh as he views the scene. Then we cut to him running around in search of a lead, as he says in voiceover, “Let’s see who wins!†He seems like a brash and passionate detective, who throws himself headlong into his work and goes overboard slapping and cursing at his suspects during interrogation. However, when he sees the hooded man whom he believes is the murderer, he starts running furiously with a single-mindedness that reflects the closing caption: “Quitting is not a word in a 1986 detective’s vocabulary.â€

The second teaser is definitely darker in tone because the first scene shows the murderer kidnapping his victim and slowly strangling her to death. Choi Jin-hyuk’s eyes shimmer in compassion as he sees the brutalized state of the victim’s body, and the victim’s loved ones grieve for her at the crime scene. Distinct markings on the victim’s body turn into a scene speeding through a tunnel, and at the end of the rapid-fire cuts, Choi Jin-hyuk is in the future saying, “The bastard has started killing again.â€

Of course I’m excited to see Choi Jin-hyuk on my screen again, but I’m also impatient for the promos to show more of his crime solving partner-to-be, Yoon Hyun-min (My Daughter Geum Sa-wol), as well. Thankfully, it’ll only be three short weeks until the drama actually begins.

OCN’s Saturday-Sunday drama Tunnel will begin airing on March 25.

Mysterious dots and missing bodies in OCN’s Tunnel teaser

by tineybeanie | March 13, 2017 | 10 Comments

tunn16.jpg

A new teaser has been released for OCN’s upcoming time-slip cop procedural Tunnel. It’s about a homicide detective from 1986 who goes through a tunnel, and realizes that he’s traveled through time to 2017. But the murder suspect he was investigating in his own time is still at large in the present. Choi Jin-hyuk (Pride and Prejudice) plays the main character, and Yoon Hyun-min (My Daughter Geum Sa-wol) plays his partner.

The teaser starts out with a horrified scream as it depicts a day in 1986, when a woman was dragged off and killed. The voice in the background says, “Whenever he sees a woman in a skirt, he starts getting a crazy urge to kill her.†As he’s following up on leads of different murder cases, Choi Jin-hyuk is convinced that it’s all the same guy because of the strange dots that mark every victim’s heels. He deduces that they indicate which number the victim is on the murderer’s list of kills, and number five is missing. He chases the killer through the tunnel, but he finds himself completely taken aback when he realizes he’s jumped through time itself.

The recently released character stills show Choi Jin-hyuk working closely together with his counterpart Yoon Hyun-min to solve the case. The copy on Choi’s still reads, “Would you believe me if I said I came from 1986?†while Yoon’s says, “Don’t apologize to me. Just struggle.†And Lee Yoo-young (The Treacherous, Fatal Intuition), who plays a forensic psychologist for the drama, asks with an eerie dead-eyed stare, “When you kill people, how did it feel?â€

But my favorite picture is the one where Choi and Yoon are smiling at each other with Choi swinging handcuffs in the air because it’s so reminiscent of the Goblin runway tunnel walk. If their bromance is anything like the goblin-reaper dynamic, I will be absolutely thrilled.

Tunnel will air on OCN starting Saturday, March 25.

PD Of New Drama “Tunnel†Asked About Alleged Similarities To “Signalâ€

tunnel1.jpg&key=00bf8997e777ec2c6cb95039

On March 22, OCN’s new original drama “Tunnel†held a press conference at Amoris Hall in Seoul.

During the conference, producing director (PD) Shin Yong Hwi addressed reports that “Tunnel†was very similar to tvN’s 2016 drama “Signalâ€.

“Personally, I haven’t closely watched â€˜Signal,'†Shin Yong Hwi said. “I’ve never thought deeply about the differences between the two dramas.â€

He added, “Recently many dramas have been using the ‘time slip’ concept. A drama I directed in the past also used ‘time slip.’ We used the ‘time slip’ in ‘Tunnel’ because it fit the drama’s story, not just because we were following the current trend.â€

He concluded, “Detective Park Kwang Ho is very human despite his seemingly aggressive past, Kim Sun Jae is smart but lacking in social skills, and Shin Jae Yi is a character that has grown up with the pain of knowing he was adopted. All three characters have flaws and weaknesses. ‘Tunnel’ is a very human drama where they learn to support each other. Murder is the subject matter, but it is not too intense.â€

“Tunnel†tells the story of Detective Park Kwang Ho (Choi Jin Hyuk), who is pursuing a serial killer down a tunnel in 1986 when he suddenly finds himself in the year 2017. He teams up with elite detective Kim Sun Jae (Yoon Hyun Min) and crime psychologist Shin Jae Yi (Lee Yoo Young) to solve the serial killings that have started up again in 2017.

“Tunnel†airs its first episode on March 25 at 10 p.m. KST.

"Tunnel - Drama" Choi Jin-hyeok's crazy heart-throbbing performance

IhPNQbU.jpg&key=b5f373540762edb756105350

"I should have turned it down, but I had nothing else to say"

The new OCN drama hero Choi Jin-hyeok was spotted holding a victim child tightly in his arms.

In "Tunnel - Drama", Choi Jin-hyeok takes on the role of detective Park Gwang-ho who went after a criminal in a tunnel in the year 1886 but crossed a line 30 years later to 2017. He then works with Kim Seon-jae (Yoon Hyeon-min) and Sin Jay (Lee Yoo-young) to track down the criminal from 30 years ago.

While Choi Jin-hyeok is busy trying to catch the criminal, guilt overwhelms him when he witnesses a man staring absentmindedly at his murdered wife and his child is crying behind him. Choi Jin-hyeok takes the child into his arms and gets teary eyed himself. Although he speaks to the man bluntly, he is guilty that he couldn't do anything about the murderer.

The 'hugging' scene was shot for more than 6 hours. The take that day involved the beginning of the 'happening' and the situation that occurs after it. Despite the cruel weather, Choi Jin-hyeok focused on his script and made everyone around him hold their breaths.

The child he held wasn't an actor but a son of the one of the staff members. During the take, Choi Jin-hyeok caused immense tension on the set but as soon as cameras were off, he would return to being 'the nice man' and fooled around with the child, making sure he stayed warm.

past versus present —> bromance

M9eLCzL.png&key=73f58666c7c30d2a600e7f30

All you need is a blistering bromance to anchor a drama and you’re probably guaranteed an entertaining watch. OCN dropped a series of new teasers for Tunnel, and my fave one is the first meeting between Choi Jin Hyuk and Yoon Hyun Min. The police station remains consistent throughout the time leap, thus Choi Jin Hyuk is able to find his way around still in 2017. Kinda love how both men thought the other party was some crazed intruder. Haha.
