C-JeS Entertainment has officially announced that the legal dispute between JYJ and its former Japanese management, Avex, has come to an end.

On February 16, entertainment agency C-Jes uploaded a press release on its official homepage regarding its artist group JYJ. It announced, “C-JeS (JYJ) and Avex have agreed to end all legal disputes that have occurred between the two parties until now. Henceforth, C-JeS (JYJ) and Avex will longer meddle in each other’s activities.

Previously, the Tokyo District Court ruled in favor of JYJ and ordered Avex to compensate the group for interfering with its activities in Japan. Avex immediately appealed the decision, and a related source revealed, “Through the mediation of the Tokyo District Court, both sides decided to settle.

The CEO of C-JeS Entertainment, Baek Chang Joo, expressed his pleasure at having the dispute end and the road to JYJ’s activities in Japan open. Baek Chang Joo stated, “It is most meaningful that as we have agreed with Avex that it will no longer meddle in JYJ’s activities, the group’s activities in Japan has been legally guaranteed. We are happy that JYJ’s long legal dispute has ended and are hopeful that JYJ will be able to meet their Japanese fans more closely and more often.â€

[NEWS] JYJ, concluded lawsuit against AVEX, to be able to continue their Japanese career

JYJ will be able to resume their activities in Japan.

On February 16th, C-JeS Entertainment wrote on their official website, “C-JeS and AVEX finally agreed on concluding all of the lawsuits that have been going on between us. C-JeS and AVEX respectively will not interfere in each other’s activities from now on.â€

In January 2013, Japan’s Tokyo Regional Court ordered AVEX to halt claiming rights to monopolize JYJ’s management in Japan, and to pay C-JeS Entertainment approximately 660 million Japanese Yen in damages.

An official of C-JeS said, “However, AVEX made an appeal, and we finally deduced a negotiation thanks to Tokyo High Court’s mediation.â€

After getting their management contracts with SM Entertainment cancelled back in November, 2009, JYJ signed a new management contract with C-JeS Entertainment and AVEX.

However, C-JeS and AVEX started having conflicts about JYJ’s promotion, and AVEX notified cancellation of contract in September, 2010. Afterwards, C-JeS also notified cancellation of contract, and managed JYJ’s Japan management by themselves.

Afterwards, AVEX claimed that they have rights to monopolize JYJ’s promotion in Japan, and C-JeS sued AVEX. C-JeS won in the trial, and the whole lawsuit finally concluded.

Chief executive officer Baek Chang Joo of C-JeS Entertainment said, “We’d like to express sincere thanks to Japanese judiciary.â€

He went on, “AVEX agreed on not interfering in JYJ’s activities in the future, and JYJ will be able to resume their Japanese career. All of and JYJ members are very glad that the lawsuit was finally concluded, and we hope to meet Japanese fans as soon as possible.â€

I'm so happy this is finally over but I hope Avex is serious, that it won't continue to blacklist JYJ anymore.

I really do hope JYJ will appear in Japan again.  I don't know if AVEX is to be trusted.... if they can't, JYJ should just sign with a bigger company (Universal Japan? :hoplz: ) that can push AVEX away in case if they tried to do anything shady.

idk if they would want to sign with an even bigger record company after struggling with their previous major company since CJeS was founded exclusively for them for a reason, it would be like going from the frying pan to the fire

Maybe this time around the contract will be better.  Cause if they really do want to venture to Japan again, they really need a strong force to support them in case if AVEX has something up their sleeves I'm happy with how this turns out, but I have trust issues with AVEX.

The problem is not the size of the company, it's the content of their contract.  If the company is big and the contract and agreement is good, why not.

I think they would miss the freedom they currently have with their self-management, I don't think a company as big as Universal would be as permitting

JYJ don't even have a contract with CJeS. If they made a contract with another Japanese company, it would all go through CJeS to prevent restrictions on JYJ.

As in unless JYJ can have control of their own activities and decisions and money, they won't sign a contract.

exactly. I'm not entirely sure how they'll venture back in Japan. Unless they can have control, they won't sign. But I think they really need the support of an another powerful company that can go head to head with Avex, to prevent any potential hindering/cockblocking.

Let's just wait and see how things will turn up for them now.

I'm still side eyeing Avex.. that shady mafia company. They say one thing but do another, it's always been that way. Hopefully they won't continue such actions like their counterpart SM

JYJ deserve to be able to promote freely. All this blacklisting is another form of abuse. It's like Avex and SM were so bitter that they lost such great talents that they didn't want to see them successful on their own.

If the blacklisting really stops in Japan, I'm confident that JYJ would be able to manage themselves with CJeS like they have been doing. They don't need anything or anyone else. They can rely on themselves as they have been. They proved it

There were rumours that they could sign with Pony Canyon. It's a big company, but they're really nice to their artists (one of my ex J-faves was from Pony Canyon). I think JYJ would be happy with them, if they did sign.

Anyway, I'm so freaking happy that everything has been finally settled. The legal representatives of CJeS have been very hard at work. Arigatou Gozaimasu! *deep bow*

just like with SM, nothing really changes.

Yes and no...

SM can get the Korean TV shows (both music and variety) to block out JYJ and likewise AVEX can (and probably will) get the Japanese TV shows to block out JYJ.

But JYJ have been unable to do anything in Japan, such as release albums and hold concerts, because AVEX have claimed that they owned the exclusive rights to that in Japan.

JYJ have been able to release albums and hold concert in Korea all the time, SM have not been able to block them from that ever since the injunction ruling.

So you're right that the situation in Japan now will be like how it is in Korea, but prior to this JYJ have been completely unable to do any activities at all in Japan (and that's not how it's been in Korea).

(obviously, ever since the first court ruling in favor of JYJ vs AVEX they have managed to hold concerts, but now the legal dispute is completely settled)

to my knowledge, JYJ has already held several concerts in Japan, both individually (large scale) and as soloists. I was never under the impression that they couldn't work in japan; especially since it was reported they were shopping around for a new japanese agency this time last year.
