About Yeri and Wendy.

Hi y'all.

So I have this question. I've just recently (Rookie and slightly during RR) started getting into RV, but even before I saw people saying that Yeri was the worst singer in the ground and that Wendy was a vocal goddess. So I checked a lot of Rookie live performances, some acapella ones, encore stages and honestly I thought Yeri sounded really good, while Wendy sounded, well, really bad on pretty much every occasion... Voice cracking all the time, flat, off tune etc...

Is there something that I'm missing? Did something happen? I will try to check some older stuff of theirs to see if it was really the case, but honestly my feelings are completely opposite to what I've been reading around this forum :o

it's because all red velvet members can't sing.

Well, to me they are really good singers and seem very stable despite their intense choreography. It's just that Wendy situation that's been bugging me recently.

Wendy overused her voice during trainee years because she wanted to debut badly, so she got nodules like most singers do when they overuse their voices in the sense of ruining it in the long run. But the vocal teacher JJ told her to practice her head voice to be able to compensate for that. She's not a bad singer, just a damaged one.

Wendy is miles away the better singer, and I dont mean that in offense to Yeri who is improving....Wendy is one of the best vocals of this girl group generation. But she does battle vocal nodules, and a song like Rookie kinda limits what she can do. The style of singing is cutesy and Wendy tends to pinch her voice when singing in a cute manner. I love Rookie but I hope in future comebacks RV have songs that allow Wendy to sing with her full voice, because that is where she really shines.

Yeri's parts are always easy,Wendy's parts are not

Rookie prechorus was pretty much similar in difficulty for both Wendy and Yeri parts...

But I didn't know she was sick during promotions and that she had some additional throat problems. Thanks guys, I will definitely check some older stuff.

But Wendy had other parts aside the pre-chorus. Also, I wasn't just referring to ROOKIE but all RV songs. You really should check out their older staff. IMO, they're better than their newer songs. I'll recommend the entire THE RED album.

Yeri still have a long, and by long I mean reaaaaally long way to go to get on Wendy's level.

Thing is that Wendy had a flu during Rookie promotions, and it was recently revealed by SM's vocal trainer that she also suffers from vocal nodules.

She is actually considered the best female vocalist of the new generation, I think you should look for more stuff OP, not just Rookie performances.

Rookie isn't a very challenging song so it's not the best example of what the girls can do vocally. Definitely check out some older live performances.
