How do you properly tell a person you're not interested without lying?

Recommended Posts

Someone just now tried to hit on me and ask for my name an contact info.

He tapped my shoulder and when I turned he said "Muy bonita." I responded with "Um...thank you?" He asked for my name so I lied and said it was Chelsea. Then he asked if I had Instagram or Snapchat. I lied by saying I didn't have any. Just to finally get him to leave me alone, I made one final lie that I was lesbian and it worked. I feel like a wimp for lying instead of saying "Listen, I'm not interested, leave me alone." or something without worrying about coming off as rude. How can I be more confident to be more assertive and aggressive in these types of situations?

or just say im not interested. true it would hurt his feelings but yours are more important- you dont like him. you matter first

I just say "Sorry I'm not interested", if they get pushy I tend to raise my voice it isn't very nice but neither is ignoring what I said.

That's easier said than done for me.

By saying, "No, I am not interested." If it was me, I would rather someone tell me the truth, than lie to my face. I'm not an idiot.

as a guy, I agree.

you answered him three questions. You probably seemed like "I'm not an easy girl" rather than "I'm not interested"

Honestly sometimes it's easier to just lie, depending on the the type of person you're dealing with.

If a stranger and he seems nice: Tell him the truth: "Sorry I'm not interested."

If a stranger and he seems like the type to give you shit for rejecting him: "Sorry, I already have a boyfriend."

If you know him, either a little or you've known him for long time:

1. "I see you as just a friend."

2. "You're like (or remind me of) my brother/cousin/uncle etc."
