ethereal 20,923 Posted March 1, 2017 Share Posted March 1, 2017 i don't get people who say she's "ugly" or that she "looks like an average white girl" or that she "looks way older than her age" because honestly none of that is true. what is true is that she's constant being styled in mature make up and clothing and done up to look older than she is, but with all of it stripped back you can see she's naturally just a cute kid. enough of the slander. another thing i can't stand is the whole "people only like her/think she's pretty because she's white" narrative. i just don't get that way of thinking. does that mean you only like your biases because they're asian? they're only pretty to you because they're asian? there are many less entertaining and driven idols than somi. and she's not only popular because of her mixed race. she's not the first mixed race female in the industry, some are more popular, and some are not popular at all. why is this only a thing when it comes to her? Not every country has the same race relations as the US, and I think a lot of the hate comes from jealous white/mixed people, Korean/other Asian racists, and simple haters who bash whatever is different about the person in question. You think Koreans give a shit that you're mixed with White other than curiosity? They won't see that as superior, they will see that as dirtied and impure. Korea isn't Singapore or India or Brazil. A lot of Korean parents want their kids to marry Koreans, not other races or even ethnicities. Somi comes from that background and that culture, so it disgusts me when people invalidate the discrimination and sexualization she received/receives due to her mixed heritage, just because her mixture happens to involve white.
