........

Actor Kang Dong Won was caught up in a controversy about 'pro-Japanese ancestry"

It all begun when a netizen posted the news in a movie Naver blog, which was named Kang Dong-won's great grandfather was pro-Japanese.

Kang Dong Won asked Naver to block this blog post, saying that the image was "defamation". Naver blocked the post on August 28 according to its own regulations.

The blogger responded to the blockade, and on the night of the 28th, he rewrote on SNS with the title "Mail from Kang Dong Won".

In this article, he wrote, "There is no future for the people who are trying to conceal," he said, saying, "It is not something I invented, nor something that you did, it's just history and history can't change"He said.

Kang Dong Won's great-grandfather was Lee Jong Man (1885 ~ 1977). He is listed in advance of the National Institute for Japanese Studies. Lee Jong Man was a businessman who served as a director at the Chosun Dynasty, a pro - Japanese organization in Japan during the Japanese occupation, and was known as a 'mine king' because he owned a gold mine in Pyongan Province.

He is said to have made a large amount of donations to the Japanese police, while serving as a pro-Japanese group executive. It is said he is a first-grade pro-Japanese supporter registered in the pro-Japanese name dictionary. He is said to have funded the creation and maintenance of the comfort women and has gained wealth in exchange for the mining rights. He is also said to have paid war money to Japan during the Pacific War.

Regarding this controversy, some fans point out that there is no relation between Kang Dong Won and the great-grandfather, and that it is just "guilt by association" which draws such controversy. It is also said that Kang Dong-won may not have known about that great-grandparent at the time of the interview in 2007 where he mentioned him.

Quick Summary :

kang-dong-won_1452208317_af_org.jpg

Actor Kang Dong Won's great grandfather was a pro-japanese whose name is listed in the pro-japanese dictionary. He was asked by an interviewer around 2006/2007 if he knew about his ancestor's pro-Japan links to which he replied 'I didn't know about this'. This interview excerpt gained traction on boards around Jan-Feb & he was getting criticised for his ignorance/background.

According to the instiz article his great grandfather had financial resources to manage and create comfort women + owned iron ore and/or gold mining rights among others.

A blogger on Max Movie site writes about it 2 days ago and claims to get an email from Kang Dong Won's team threatening to sue on grounds for defamation so he is forced to take it down although everything posted about KDW in his blog post was already trending all over Korean boards weeks in advance (daum cafe/instiz/todayhumour etc).

Today also happens to be Korea's independence movement day so the timing is very bad given Korea's hate for pro Japanese traitors who sold them off for money/power etc and their descendants are rich today while descendants of freedom fighters are in poverty. So rn he's getting criticised for offering no clarifications and trying to cover up stuff instead.

he shouldn't threaten to sue him....he should actually SUE HIM. defamation to this level is worthy of a sue especially since he seems to be a man with a lot of money.

The thing is during his interview in 2006/2007 he didn't deny it when he was asked by the interviewer, he said that he just didn't know.

So it's kinda seen as shady to not clarify and sue instead.

Looks like the media isn't picking it up? I haven't seen it on Naver news ranking. I think they won't clarify anything. They'll likely just go with paying off reporters or threatening to sue them, lie low with all sorts of news about him so knetz can't come in the comments section(easy coz he's a bit of a hermit), and hope/wait for netizens to move on. Scandals don't really become huge scandals unless the media pays attention to it.

3k+ comments, and 9k+ upvotes. Welp. It's unfair to blame him for something his great grandfather did. I doubt he was still alive when Tuna was born. Though, I kinda understand why Knetz would get mad if he doesn't clarify it or state his stance on what his great grandfather did, he's a huge public figure after all. Plus, his family is rich(dunno if it's from this branch) so knetz could view it as his fam still directly benefiting from his great grandpa's past. And trying to cover it up is... yeah

edit: only noticed the Naver article in the OP now, I'm a flop. rlytearpls.png  Anyway, this is about his YG reps' response and it has more 16k+ upvotes and over 6k+ comments http://entertain.naver.com/ranking/read?oid=117&aid=0002881210
