[Game] I was prejudiced against EXO. Review of Ex'Act and Lotto

So this is my entry to this game c:
This isn't meant to be a bashing thread or anything negative towards Exo, these are just my opinions and feelings that I had when listening to each song.

**Before doing this listen through, I had only watched Exo's performance at MAMA 2016, and then in January I downloaded Monster to my phone and watched a stage with my sister. While I liked Monster, I was never overly impressed by Exo, at least to the extent of actually going and making a listen to a whole album lol
It's a similar feeling that I had towards BTS before I had actually listened to WINGS xD

**SO I chose to listen to Ex'Act, since it's their latest full-length album, but because the last two tracks are instrumental, and the point of the game is to listen to atleast 10 songs by the group, I decided to listen to the three extra songs that featured on the Lotto repackage c: (minus the Monster remix, though I might listen to that song on my own time lol) This was also the album that won Album of the Year at the MAMA awards, so I might as well, since I watched them win and all.

[i was prejudiced] against EXO

The album:
Ex'Act and Lotto repackage

My fave song from the album: Cloud 9 and Monster
My least fave song from the album: White Noise and They Never Know
Rating: 7/10

Lucky One
Cute background beat (it reminds me of a flute?). I can see myself listening to this a few more times and really liking it after awhile, but besides the bgm, kind of generic for a title track.

Monster
I've actually heard this before and even had it on my google play. I really like it. The chorus and the hook are soo good. (tbh listening to it now, I'm reminded of The Backstreet Boys xD) I Love the "creeping creeping creeping" at the end.

Artificial Love
This is interesting (?). Kind of weird, but not bad. Reminds me of Daft Punk and the 80's lol.

Cloud 9
This is a cute track with soft vocals on a fun and not over-the-top beat. (is the lyric "girl, you got me flying up"?)

Heaven
Piano on top of the beat is really cool. Not my favourite though. The chorus is nice

White Noise
This is the only song where I don't really like the bgm. Kind of cheesy, and paired with the nice vocals, it sounds funny.

One and Only
Hip hop air horn at the beginning? And then this is the softest song on the album. Very R&B.

They Never Know
Not sure how to feel about this one. The rap stands out, but the beat is so strange when the vocals start.

Stronger
This is a nice one. Definitely a song that would be at the end credits of a movie (I don't really listen to acoustic piano songs lol). I liked it.

(Crying because I listened to the Lucky One and Monster instrumental tracks, and they are really good by themselves lol)

Lotto
The autotune is really funny. The chorus, again, really good. But other than that, this song isn't the most interesting.

Can't Bring Me Down
Very 'boy band' sounding. I think that this song replicates exactly what I thought Exo sounded like before I listened to this album. Not extraordinary

She's Dreaming
This is a really nice vocal. Their voices are beautiful, and the rappers really came into the song well. Still not my type of song, it's a little soft and boring, but it sounds really good. The chorus "She's Dreaming" is really sweet too

Overall Opinion:
Huh. This really wasn't that bad. I am really into the electronic sound of most of these songs, and I think that the first 5 songs sounded really good one after the other. They had a similar sound but they were still really good and independent songs. I have a thing for an album that has a flow of one song the the next. I really didn't expect to feel satisfied by most of these songs c:

The choruses were really decent in each song. And, as you can tell, I am pretty impressed by the producers and the people who made the background music lol (whatever you call it).

But at the same time, I did not completely love this album, nor this group. And maybe this isn't the best album to listen to as an introduction of Exo.
Though, when they come out with another album (I'm not sure if I'll check out their latest EP) I will have more of an open mind to check it out, actually. Way more than before lol. I'm not as hesitant to take a listen c:

Bad first choice. Go listen to Overdose EP, MAMA EP, and Exodus, in that order, now. I'll see you in the official thread in a couple hours when you'll come presenting yourself as a new fan. ohpressor.png

As much as I love exact I don't think it's the best choice to judge exo's music.

It's an experimental album (compare to their overall music), with a define sounds that mostly doesn't represent their discography.

I find Exodus or overdose mini being more representative of their style. If you want to know more about them you should listen to those.

Still great review.

this album grew on me but it's really not a great album to introduce people to exo because it's just so different from their usual/defining sound. like several people said before, exodus and overdose are their representative releases and their best imo

you should def listen to their other albums too, they have one of the best music out of all boybands imo (and a great vocal-line)

Are you exols or casual listeners?

I mean EX'act Is my jam, but it's really not everyone's taste, but child you need to bump EXODUS in your life.

If I was to put anyone on to EXO it would be EXODUS and then I'd add a few extra jams from EX'act. EX'act was EXO's experiment album btw so that's probably why it through you for a whirl

Anyways if you want Check out EXODUS

Hurt. EXODUS and El Dorado are just >>>>>>>>>>>>
