Premiere Watch:  Criminal Minds!!!

Get ready for the criminal element to make its presence known this week, with the addition of two crime-n-corruption-filled shows ready to hit the air. Overall, I think these shows round out our current lineup nicely, in terms of diversity of genres and styles—we’ve got our rom-com, sageuk romance, fantasy, melodrama, and slice-of-life bases covered. And if it feels like your watchlist just got an extra bit more crowded, it’s not in your head: tvN is adding an extra show with its new Wednesday-Thursday block. More dramas for everyone!

Time slot: Wednesday & Thursday (July 26th)
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Crime procedural, thriller
Episode count: 20

Reasons to watch: Lee Jun-ki! Moon Chae-won! Sohn Hyun-joo! Come on, we’re gonna watch this, right?

Okay, so Lee Jun-ki and Moon Chae-won have both chosen some clunkers in the past. But Criminal Minds puts them on solid ground—he’s fantastic in action thrillers, both historical and modern, and he’ll be the hotblooded profiler while she’s the cool-headed teammate he clashes and bickers with. Sohn Hyun-joo is one of those veterans with tremendous range who is strong in every role, and this time he’ll put his gravitas to good use as the leader of the team.

More than the cast, though, I have faith in the production team. Hollywood-to-Hallyu remakes can be a tricky beast, but PD Lee Jung-hyo handled last year’s The Good Wife adaptation with a lot of skill and style. He’s also got cult noir hit Heartless City on his resumé, so while he’s listed as the second director here, I feel like we’ll get to see his slick style come through. The other PD is Yang Yoon-ho, who was the second director on blockbuster action thriller IRIS. And writing is Hong Seung-hyun, who wrote both seasons of the thriller Ghost-seeing Detective Cheo Yong and was one of the team of writers on the clever sci-fi historical thriller Joseon X-Files, one of my favorite dramas of all time. We’re in good hands here! (Knock on wood.)

‘CRIMINAL MINDS’ KOREAN REMAKE TEASER FEATURES LEE JOON GI, SOHN HYUN JOO, AND MOON CHAE WON IN ACTION

JULY 23, 2017

The Hallyu remake of the hit American seriesCriminal Minds is going to start airing on Wednesday, and tvN’s production team released more teasers for fans

The extended Criminal Minds teaser had a somber, intense, and chilling mood. The trailer shows the demons plaguing the members of the National Criminal Information Agency. Kang Ki Hyung (Son Hyun Joo) who acts as the leader of the team does a fine job of detailing what the department’s role will be –looking for monsters that lost all sense of humanity. The flashbacks of murderers and how they prey on their victims take viewers on one creepy ride.

Meet The NCI Team

Team Leader Kang is quite capable in what he does but a profiling mistake is going to haunt him, and this would play a central role in the Korean remake of Criminal Minds. Kim Hyun Joon (Lee Joon Gi) was also involved in the case which continues to haunt his superior. Depicted as a talented but hotheaded crime scene investigator and profiler, Hyun Joon is someone who wouldn’t think twice about throwing punches.

Hyun Joon is a bomb expert who graduated from an elite police academy. Before he became part of the forensic behavioral analyst unit of the NCI, he was a police investigator. Hyun Joon is quite the jokester with a caring heart for his team members. To perfect his role as Hyun Joon in Criminal Minds, Lee Goon Ji had to learn some magic skills and master the Russian martial art Systema.

From the five-minute Criminal Minds trailer, the old case which led to multiple deaths appears to have personal significance to the NCI team’s leader and to Kim Hyun Joon. It would be interesting to see how this case helps the two characters evolve throughout the series alongside four other members of the team.

Ha Seon Woo (Moon Chae Won) a logical behavioral analyst who gives off a cold vibe due to her straightforward personality. Coming from a family of lawyers, she is always facing situations where she needs to fight corruption and stick to her principles. Based on theCriminal Minds teaser, she also needs to deal with her own demons and it also involves an old case.

Lee Han (Goo Yun) is a behavioral analyst who is quite on the nerdy side although he is definitely a genius. He has a knack for offering some scientific trivia while butting in on someone’s ramblings. Nana Hwang (Yoo Sun) seems to be the member patterned after Penelope in the original version of Criminal Minds. Her unabashed way of appreciating Lee Joon Gi’s looks and her way of clothing is quite similar to the character in the U.S. version. Lee Sun Bin who starred in Missing 9 rounds up the six-member crew of the NCI team. She will portray the media communication division, Yoo Min Young.

With the series premiere scheduled on Wednesday, tvN has been going all out on releasing clips and stills from the Criminal Mindsproduction team.

Stills featuring various scenes hint what theCriminal Minds premiere will reveal. From the extended teaser and the pictures, there might be flashbacks about the old case involving Kang Ki Hyung and Kim Hyun Joon. A still image showed Lee Joon Gi standing in a cemetery with a blank look on his face –this coincides with the funeral scene in the teaser.

TvN’s upcoming crime drama Criminal Minds is based on a criminal investigation drama of the same title. Based on the information released about the series, it seems like the show will base the material on the U.S. version.

Criminal Minds will start airing on tvN on Wednesday, July 26 at 10:50 p.m. Korea Standard Time.

Reasons To Look Forward To Lee Joon Gi’s Role In Upcoming Drama “Criminal Mindsâ€

lee-joon-gi-criminal-minds-copy.jpg

Lee Joon Gi will be taking on the lead role of tvN’s “Criminal Minds†as Kim Hyun Joon, a talented crime scene investigator and profiler who works at the NCI. Although his character is sometimes misunderstood due to his tendency to show off and be mischievous, Kim Hyun Joon is a character who cares deeply about his team and possesses a strong sense of justice.

The actor’s role in the drama is attracting a great deal of interest, as this is his first contemporary work in about four years and the drama’s genre is similar to that of “Time Between Dog and Wolf,†a drama that is recognized to be one of Lee Joon Gi’s trademark works. Furthermore, as a widely acknowledged expert at action, fans are also looking forward to what kind of action scenes the actor will pull off for “Criminal Minds.â€

The actor is making great efforts to assimilate to his role as the skilled crime scene investigator and is studying to help best portray his role to viewers. Plus, he is even learning various skills like magic and martial arts to perfect his ability to take on his role.

Meanwhile, check out the latest stills of the cast on set for “Criminal Minds,†which is set to begin airing on July 26 at 10:50 p.m. KST.
