College students injured as retreat bus overturns and falls, netizens call for a stop to OT/MT retreats?

 

 

 

On Feb 22 at 5:45 p.m., a bus carrying university students on the interchange to Jungang Expressway in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province crashed onto the guard rail, overturned, and fell 5 metres below.  The bus was headed to Kangwon-do as part of Kumoh National Institute of Technology's 3 days and 2 nights OT retreat for new students.  Representatives from the institution say that the bus of the accident was carrying math and chemistry majors and that over 1000 students divided by 25 buses were on their way to the retreat.

All 44 students were transferred for treatment with 3 to 5 severely wounded while the rest suffered from minor injuries.  The driver also suffered from serious injuries and was transferred to the hospital.  Police report that most of the students were wearing seat belts and they are currently investigating whether it was caused because of a slippery road.  The university has since stopped the OT retreat and are in the process of bringing the students back home.

They are luckier to be honest...my heart still hurting when remembering those 14 students and the bus driver that were died 3 days ago in our country.    They were in their way for their school camping activity too.

events like ots are fun, but if accidents like these keep occurring then precautions should be taken for the safety of all

maybe instead of going to a place so outskirt, they can just stay overnight in campus or have it during another time whereby the roads are safer to travel on?

at least once a year we heard someone died in OT on whatever university because their seniors beat them

same happened here in the Philippines where 14 people died. RIP and condolence to the families. All field trips and outdoor trips are cancelled here indefinitely

I didnt get to go on my OT for college (it was a similar thing, camping overnight for about 3 days in the UP of Michigan) because I falsely tested positive for TB...It wasnt mandatory anyway at my campus but people always enjoy it. I don't necessarily think they should get rid of it bit maybe make it voluntary...
