Vivian 225
I'm trying to dye my dark brown hair with manic panic's midnight blue. I want my hair to look a bit natural, but with blue undertones. Can this be achieved by not bleaching my hair?

lemonzest 1,711
It's not going to show up very well, but you might get a slight blue sheen. Tho I have to say, brown with a hint of blue sounds like a horrible combination... If you want a brighter result you could always bleach and dye just the ends of your hair. As long as you use protein and hot oil treatments before and after there shouldn't be too much breakage.
ayasha 929
It depends of your hair. Hair dyes like that doesn't show in my hair at all without bleaching, those just doesn't stick on my hair if it's in natural state. It doesn't hurt to try because those colors doesn't harm your hair but I recommend to be prepared that your hair might not look like you hoped it would look like. Alenka 1,349
Unfortunately it's impossible without bleaching your hair. But any bleach no matter how gentle it is described to be is gonna harm and spoil your hair structure. It would be possible to do it without bleaching only if you were naturally blonde or had really light-light brown hair
Sana Muñequita Linda 2,566
Is your hair thin? Because that way, bleaching wouldn't work :(
RainStormRaider 446
Try it without bleach first. If it doesn't work as well as you'd hoped then go for bleaching. Though I would trust bleaching to the professionals only or at least a friend, or a mom, or a sister, someone to help you do it. I have rainbow ombre in my hair right now, but I had ombre before-hand that's why the blue came out so good on me.
GANGNAM OVERLORD 706
Just do a test strand lol. When I dye my hair dark blue, I just put a bright ass blue and leave it in a shower cap for hours lol
EunMinYeon 545
Manic panic/Stargazer/La Riche Directions toners are all best used with bleached hair I tried for months to use a silver toner (I'm already an ash toned blonde) and it was only sticking to the lighter parts. Once I bleached it the colour went straight on. Same can be said with the darker colours I had a friend who seemed to have a different hair colour every month but she had to re-bleach every time, but just try you may be lucky!
