Share your problem regarding group assignments and how you solve them

I sit still for the first five minutes trying to see if anyone's going to take up leader position, or if anybody's throwing out good ideas. Usually it's a mess, or I'm just a bit anal, so I whip out a sheet of paper, write down everyone's name, then divvy up tasks and when we can expect them to be completed, trying to make sure noone else's part fully relies on someone else's to be completed before they can start.

2 classmates bailed out at the last minute because they were busy with "stuff", so the remaining members had to do everything - me included. We ended up not arriving at the correct hypothesis and a wrong conclusion. Those classmates who bailed were even mad at the end because we got a low score. Like, where were you again when we're busting our asses in the lab?

- it's hard to find time to do a group discussion that suitable for all members

- group members show up late from the appointed time

- discussion end up with more chit-chat, eating, or watching movie

- on task distribution, no one want to take the hard part

- the assignment finally finished on the last minutes without contribution of all members

- the black-hole members ruined the presentation

Why not I made this situation,

two other members bailed out without any reasons and remaining members are forced to complete sacrifice some of the time in doing so. Meanwhile both of the three members get into an argument due to conflicting views but at the last minute they work together to finish the project together and manged to done it on time.

How is it?
