People with tattoos, please describe your experience of getting your first tattoo

Reason why I'm asking is because I finally set up an appointment to get my tattoo done. It's gonna happen on March 8th and I'm super excited, anxious and nervous at the same time.

I found an artist who's work I really like, when I met her in person I felt like we've known each other for years. Her personality is so infectious and the brief consultation that we had was just great.

What I'm getting is an owl with a mandala and I can't decide whether I want it on the outside or the inside of my arm, but once I get the stencil on I'll known which one I prefer better.

My question for all of you is, how did the experience of getting tattooed go for you? Did you enjoy it? I mean its weird to enjoy pain of being stabbed with multiple needles for a prolonged period of time, but how was it?

I decided to split my tattoo into 2 session since its my first one but I feel like by the end of this year I will end up with a sleeve cause I heard from a lot of tattooed people that its addictive, and once you get 1 you will be getting more.

It depend on your sensibility of where you'll get it tattooed more than the overall feeling (probably inside your arm will be more painful). If you've had epilation by electrolysis before, it's not as bad as the needles does not "shock" you and you can almost get used to it.

You don't necessarily get addicted to the pain, but you soon forget about it and the feeling to be more personnalized can make you want more of it. I don't think the pain can give you a "high" by itself.

I have a tattoo about a hand-size on my thigh if you have more questions, don't hesitate.

I hope you get a good experience and you'll be proud of your tattoo once you have it :)

I've been putting off getting tattooed for years, this was my new years resolution. I meant to get it as a birthday present to myself but I'll get it earlier than my birthday.

If you get it done on the outside of your arm it'll hurt way less and imo it'll look better. I got mine done on the outside and though it was very short, it didn't hurt that much. It just feels like someone stabbing you with a pen, or scratching down your arm with a nail, which sounds painful but not as much as people make out tattooing to feel like.
