Lord of Cards 628
I am not the one who created this, just happen to chance upon it.While there are people who think youtube views means absolutely nothing, I think the opposite is more apparent.2013 SNSD - I Got A Boy - 81 million Big Bang - Fantastic Baby (2012 release) - 35 million EXO - Growl - 23 million 2NE1 - I Am The Best (2011 release) - 22 million EXO - Wolf - 20 million 2014 EXO - Overdose - 47 million SNSD - Mr. Mr. - 37 million Big Bang - Fantastic Baby (2012 release) - 36 million SNSD - I Got A Boy (2013 release) - 33 million EXO - Growl (2013 release) - 32 million 2015 Big Bang - Bang Bang Bang - 94 million Big Bang - Loser - 78 million EXO - Call Me Baby - 68 million Big Bang - Fantastic Baby (2012 release) - 64 million Big Bang - Bae Bae - 52 million 2016 TWICE - Cheer Up - 116 million Big Bang - Bang Bang Bang (2015 release) - 103 million TWICE - TT - 97 million BTS - Fire - 92 million TWICE - Like Ooh-Ahh (2015 release) - 90 million In 2012, although not shown in the video, we all know Gangnam Style became viral that year and it benefited Big Bang Fantastic Baby greatly, so much so that it charted top 5 the next 3 years. In 2013, SNSD had a hit with I Got A Boy, it spill over success across the entire Kpop spectrum with EXO benefiting with their own hit song Growl that year.In 2014, there was a slump in Kpop. EXO manage to top that year with Overdose. However, Overdose wasn't a hit song by Kpop standard. No songs from 2014 chart in 2015.In 2015, Big Bang had a hit with Bang Bang Bang. The effect spill over to the entire Kpop spectrum with TWICE managing to benefit most with their debut Like Ooh-Ahh. In 2016, TWICE had a hit with Cheer Up. The success spill over to the entire Kpop spectrum and it's impact is already apparent now with BTS breaking records never seen before for Kpop group. Ji-Lovely 4,535
obsession over views was something since forever I remember back in 2011-13 when I used to follow kpop a bit , I'd scroll down the comments in SuJu vids and see ppl aiming for 50m 60m 70m the thing now is that fandoms are bigger.. kpop got alot more popular than before so let's not pretend that this obsession is new to kpop cuz it was there since the beginnig

Just when Kpop scene shifts from solo singer to idol group, and when agency started using youtube, people were actually thrilled whenever a M/V reaches 10 million. That was a huge number back then because most other M/V from neighboring country didn't quite breach that figure.

Lord of Cards 628
I think that has more to do with Big Bang than PSY. How did Gangnam Style impact FB? And why not the other videos? PSY increase the visibility of Kpop. Gangnam Style is like a multiplier for most of the Kpop M/V at that time. It doesn't mean other M/V didn't get a boost, just not as much when compared to Big Bang. 100 multiply by 1.5 = 150. 20 multiply by 1.5 = 30 All M/V could get that 1.5 multiplier but Big Bang benefited the most because they already have a good foundation. Big Bang - Fantastic Baby was a hit with or without PSY. It just so happen that Fantastic Baby was the 2nd biggest hit that year and manage to average a high number of view till this day. It really isn't that hard to understand.

I actually thought the boost was from FB being featured once in a US show and another boost came from FB being viral in the Philippines at one point. Also from its unending MAMA performances... mikiangel 938
It's much easier to get to 100 mill views these days, hell it's much easier for world artist to get to billion these day. I remember when Psy got a billion it was monumental achievement , now there is a bunch of video with over billion views. Thats why you can't really compare Youtube records from 2016 to Youtube records from 2012-2014.

This is why ppl shouldn't be comparing new gen and old gen at all tbh because times have changed, and things are more easily done now than they were in the past, and vice versa. Comparing things like YT views and streams between old gen and new gen is just as dumb as comparing things like digital downloads and physical sales between them, especially in attempts to "assert superiority "*eye rolls*. Different times mean different standards. If any comparisons should happen, it should be within a single generation.
